Part no. request

Post by discv »

Front and rear brake discs and pads please.

With regard to the OEM rear discs is there an option for item complete with bearings and magnetic rings- or is this just an aftermarket thing?

By default the rears come with bearings as there is no separate hub. I imagine the OE ones, and any branded after market ones will come with the ABS sender on, I would expect only cheap ones will come without. You can remove the ring and swap it over, but there must be a risk of breaking it, I'd get decent ones with the ring on!! Note you need a 36mm socket for the rear hub nut, the 35mm one you might have in your tool box to fit the front hub nuts is too small #-o

Thanks- great stuff. It's interesting to note that, for example, OEM front discs and pads come to 256.
Citroen fixed price say they will do the job for 245 all in- and they claim Original Parts.

I imagine that will be using the cheaper parts, which comes to £120 + the labour.

That will be down to bulk buying. If you or I buy parts for a car it will be for one car, so we would pay for that (as, among other things, we will be buying the packaging for one set). When large dealerships buy common parts (such as for brakes) they could be ordering a hundred sets of brakes, so less paperwork and the packaging will be for a large number of sets, so less packaging per set; hence the savings.

Prices quoted are also retail, the dealer buys in at trade and has a decent mark up

Yes, what this equates to is as you have found - the 'Essentials' uses the cheaper Citroen recommended parts and the 'Originals' uses the OEM parts.

But as Richard says, the prices provided are retail to the customer or garage that doesn't have any discount (trade or loyalty) applied. Franchised dealers will get these at a much reduced price.

I'm tearing my hair out on this simple job!
I opted for Bremo front discs and pads- not the cheapest aftermarket option, but good specs.

The sizes and type of bolts for the front cylinder and the front caliper retaining bolts are giving me a problem. The required tools are not in my box.
The caliper bolts, I think, are H7 hex?
The retaining bolts are some type of torx?
I'd appreciate a pointer here- as I've got to shell out for the needed socket bits!
