Peugeot 207 under bonnet fuse box

Post by MartinB »

Hi first post
2008 Peugeot 207 hdi sport
I have a strange issue with my wipers and headlights turning on after dark 5 mins after the car is locked. The only way to stop this is to disconnect the battery.
My local garage think it is the fuse box by the battery but can't find a new replacement. They agreed to fit a second hand one if l can find one.
My problem is the ambiguous part numbers listed. See attached.
Mine is 9664055580 which l cant find but also listed for my car are 9664055780 and 9664055480 which l can find.
Can anyone confirm for me that they are interchangeable?
Thanks

Welcome along

These are really confusing - PSA give them a part number, sometimes starting with 96, but there is another number printed on the fuse box, also often beginning 96, but which is different! If you are looking for a second hand one find one that has the same number printed on it as yours, ignore the PSA part number, unless you want to buy a new one.

Maybe a disconnect switch like this at Amazon would make it simpler.

207 fuse boxes can be a bit of a problem as they can collect water over time... I've had some 'fun' with one on a petrol 207 in the past...

They're not too hard to remove and it may be worth removing it, checking all the connectors are clean and looking for any water ingress. If you can, dry it out for a few days in a warm place...

Check too, all fuse blades and their sockets are clean, dry and free of corrosion.

Whilst it's out, check the earth connections... There's one earth cable that's bolted to the inner wing under the fusebox. I've known this cable to make poor contact where it bolts to the wing due to the paint not being properly removed and acting as an insulator. This can cause the most bizarre of faults...

Matched the layout to another one.. They don't need coding they are. Plug n play.. Fitted it.. Car. Ran purfectly and the locking from drivers door closing also stopped...

Thanks guys. The battery terminal already has a quick release so it really easy to remove when not in use. I have found a cheap fuse board that is on the list above but not the same number as the current one so going to see if that matches while l search for the correct one.
It only started doing it this week when it got covered in melting snow.

That reinforces my thoughts it is all down to water ingress...

Hi all fixed😀
I eventually found a used fuse box 9664055580 on eBay as they apparently are no longer made so new wasn't an option. Unfortunately whilst it looked ok on the surface once you started pulling the fuses some had white powder around them showing they where corroded but l fitted it to check and sure enough it was US. I then found a 9664055780 for £15 including post so decided to give it a go as although it wasn't the same number as mine it was listed in the photo on my original post. Success everything ok again.
So it would seem that the numbers 9664055780 and 9664055480 are interchangeable with 9664055580

I dont think it's numbers but actual layout that should match that's important..

Yes but the adverts on eBay usually get listed by a single part number from that list and l could not find info that the relays under the fuses actually did the same thing so posted for any one else looking.
The actual surface plugs are identical.

I picked up a Pug to do some A-B while I'm back visiting family in Britain. Exact same issue in the same place. There were various issues as a result, the headlight bulbs kept blowing, the fuel pump under the back seat stopped and the laps in this Aircon controls stopped. The radio couldn't get signal either. I haven't traced the cables yet but I'll change the fuse box first consider the state of mine. I have pins broken in mine too. I believe the fuse box in mine was actually for a Citroen picasso, but don't quote me on that. The actual fuse box that's arrived for my car and model is different in many ways. most notably the earth fuse block under the fuse box has much higher rated fuses than the mismatched pre-existing fuse box. I'm not getting too involved with all this. I'll try the new fuse box and if it doesn't work I'll likely scrap this car and just get a newer one. We get what we pay for.
