Xsara 2litre HDI crankshaft Pulley

Post by oscar »

Hi replaced pulley with a new FEBI one came with new bolt fitted it did up then torq'd it then did degrees it was the one with the smooth face.
Been on a month and failed had battery light flash up then steering heavy found a spot to stop by then belt had dropped off and found lots of spots of black on hands/arms which was odd!
Later found out it was molten rubber! got Crankshaft pulley off today found it had come loose also so has muck woodruff key somewhat!!!.
But bolt was still dam tight as thread lock made it a pitta to undo so bolt hadn't come undone!
But what has happened is the two parts have come unbonded or one has? so been slipping till got so hot melted rubber which is where came loose as there is a gap between them where bolts goes through and that is closed right up while on original one there is a gap there you can see between the tow parts.

Hoping can save car? there is a bit of bite on woodruff key but not much! it has damaged casing and looks like rubbed timing belt so will have a look more at that.
Friend that works on PSA gear said could put some thread lock on key when doing then tighten right up!

Also what is the length of Aux belt with A/C is 1740 right? mind prefer to take that out of loop if could but probably find alternator would be somewhere else and pulleys also?

Hi does anyone know the correct Torque and Deg for crankshaft bolt as got so many different ones it's daft!
Spoke to febi asked what they recommended? just said go to Auto data/Citroen.Well it's Febi's dam part not Citroen's.
Which to me sort of confirms what we thought there just sourcing from china!

To be honest, just as effing tight as you can get it. I usually have to put a 5 foot length of gas pipe over a breaker bar to loosen them off so as tight as possible without the gas pipe.

hi but that's undoing which is after thread lock has set!
has was hard to undo well took a bit for impact wrench to do as bolts got thread lock coating went in easier though as new bolt used.
Had new pulley fail so trying to find correct torq etc part in case they try to say was too tight?
But seems a bit of a lottery!
When you look there is a gap between outer where washer sits and rear part that butts to crank does that close as torque or should it remain?

Was going to suggest you to look at the Free Service Manuals for your car or something with the same engine, but I don't have access to the PDFs anymore :( .
Is it related with the making of a donation or?

Can you reach it?

EDIT: Yup, it seems you should make a donation first. I have the S2 Xantia .pdf, but it is on my other PC, which is a little bit duff right now :D

Citroen have now made access to these handbooks chargeable - like the live parts data, so we have had to move them to the resources section which is available to members making a parts donation.

The plans? don't give sizes But Citroen dealer spares gave me them as two keys was going to get both but ended up being so awkward to get! Can't collect but can drop to a Garage! which are closed or not local to there standard!. Will post sometime and way post going would be sometime?

In the end got one on flea bay Ford one £3 posted got next day as did my detective work checked through spec's etc

But one that was meant to be doing was a messer. As other one who is Royal Fail mech is so bizzy.Got it done by place local.

Put new belts/timing kit/Water pump/Crankshaft oil seal as weeping and Thermostat on it as wasn't sure stat was working right as if have blower on full for long time can drop under the one bar.

But lucky key was manked as timing belt was! shredding and oil contaminated plus see rib marks on other side so don't think it would have got an xmas prezzie?
When pulley was loose was whacking belt cover and belt had made a line up it.

It could be Glossolalia! :-D

Oscar: Get a Haynes manual or similar. The procedure for the floating washer behind crank pulley is in there for Hdi. I followed it myself last time I done one. It is important to getting it right. Don't do it up with a rattle gun as you are probably moving the mechanism and bits before the important part of it being in correct position before tightening. This may be where your problems have been. Also you may have moved timing with rattle gun and cams or flywheel not locked.
