Spain or Sweden? Rear wiper blade.

Post by Andle »

Rear windshield - wiper rubber is gone.

Called up four independent dealerships - looking for a replacement. Scotland, Wales & two in England.

Two say it should be a 14” blade. The other two say 16”.

Apparently my car had two production lines. One in Spain & the other in Sweden.

They say the rear wiper size, depends on where my car was produced.

This is ridiculous.

Can someone help me find out the right one please?

I’ve even just been on the phone to Citroen direct - and even they are pushing me back to dealerships.

(Note: It would be a pleasant surprise if my car can happen to use the 16” - as this would give me greater visibility. But no point ordering 16” if it will only take 14”).

Will a 16" blade not fit anyway?

Your rear wiper blade is 400 mm long. The original part number was 642394, but the later replacement part is: 1635157480. Cost £11.90 inc. VAT from any Citroen dealership for a genuine one - just quote the latest part number.

Your Picasso was made at Vigo in Spain.

Just for reference, when it comes to wiper blades I personally always get originals from the dealers as they are the only ones that do not squeak! I have used all the brands out there in the past including Bosch and they are useless, streaking and screeching. Your choice though.

Many thanks Marc,

This simple task has made me curious.

What has caused this ‘glitch’ in the matrix.

What would lead two official dealership parts dept to suggest 14” from their system, but another two to suggest 16”.

Surely they are using the same parts catalogue/system. And a Reg number is a Reg number. A vin is a vin.

How can the outcomes be so different - if they are using the same system?

If this can happen over a wiper blade - could it happen over other parts too?

What should one do to mitigate this type of glitch when seeking part numbers?

Ignore the registration, the VIN is the important one.

The VIN contains the exact engine, gearbox, model body shape and other information. The last 8 digits are the VIS. This is the unique serial number part of you like. It contains all the specific data relating to the vehicle itself.

The VIN should be used as hit contains the exact correct parts fitted to the vehicle at production. Other aftermarket databases are invariably wrong and a reason whey so many people get the wrong parts.

See my post here for info on the VIN makeup:

The admin team only use the official PSA parts system so the information is always as correct and current as possible.

Thanks Marc.

VIN from here on out.

I think I’m going to replace all the wipers on the car in one hit.

Would you be able to post the most recent part numbers for my front driver + front passenger too?

Cheers for the assist,

Andle.

So you have a choice, depending on what you want.

The spring type are item (8)
If you have the arms for the flat blades you have the choice of a twin set E & F (19) or individuals (13) & (14) - but left and right are the same size on all these.

Let me know which ones you want and I can let you know parts numbers and prices.

So it looks like you already have the wiper arms for the flat blades, so 1642335180 is the part number for items (13) & (14).

I think from the looks of it that E & F have fittings for the hook type spring wiper arms, so may not be correct for your wiper arms.

Marc,

Forgive me if this is tedious request - but I'm in need of your expertise.

I'm talking to Valeo about replacement wipers & after giving them the newer part numbers - there is significant confusion.

I am absolutely sure it's their technical support person making a cross referencing error. But, just to cover my base, can I ask for your help on this further?

Could you please recheck/reconfirm the correct blades (Front Driver & Pass + Rear) for my VIN, and list the old part numbers alongside the revised/updated ones.

Valeo have asked me to email them in this info so they can get me what I need. I suspect the valeo tech working today might be a newbie - so I want to make it as simple as possible for him to get right.

Rear

I'm grateful,

Andle.

The confusion is probably because these are Citroen part numbers, not Valeo.

These will be different to Valeo and any other manufacturer's own part numbers. They often use Citroen part numbers to provide you with an equivalent of their own brand. This is where the problems arise, as their own equivalent part may not be the correct one depending on the type and style fitted to a vehicle if there were changeovers in the design.

I only provide genuine PSA part numbers, so if you rang Citroen up, you could order the correct parts and get genuine OEM parts.

The part numbers I have supplied are correct but here are the old part numbers for the flat wiper blades. As you can see the newer part is exactly the same for both sides.

Left old: 6426ZE, new: 1642335180
Right old: 6426ZF, new: 1642335180

Citroen charge £24.67 inc. VAT for these, but the seller below is charging £17.99 each for them inc. delivery and has 2 in stock. They are the same size 650mm / 26"

So here's one on ebay that has the original part number:

A bit late to the party but it is possible to buy just the rubber part of the blade and replace. If the length is a problem, just buy a longer one and trim it down, for the rear wiper almost anything is suitable, I've done it with mine when I had an estate.

If they are available to you, Lidl and Aldi both have major-name wipers, somewhat intermittently but reasonably frequently. I bought a set of Michelin branded ones a year or so ago, just to have as spares (and they were cheap, £5 each) and fitted one early this year. Perfectly fine and better than some expensive ones bought previously.
