Re: X7 suspension woes

Post by Bandit12 »

just had an update from the dealers.
They found a broken wire going to the suspension pump ECU. 10 minute fix. Bad news is the broken wires caused a power spike which has bricked the ECU! So I need a replacement suspension pump and ECU. I've found a new one online for £700 but can anyone give me the correct part number for my car so I can confirm its compatible before buying. My RPO is 11505
Many thanks

Hi Gino,
Can you post your full 17-digit VIN, so we can get the correct part number?
Thanks.

Cushty :-D

Ok, so the VIN pre-configured part that would of been of been 5277K2, but these are not longer available new. The part number for the one to be configured is 5277K1.

So this is for the complete hydraulic BHI including pump, item (1):
Ginao BHI.PNG
So I've included both part numbers so you can at least get the correct part and then configure it as needed Gino.

Thanks Marc really appreciate your help.
Do you know how critical the K1 part of the code is? I've found a brand new pump online but the number listed is 2577 A9. Pictures look identical to mine but I'm mindful it has to match the auto gearbox etc.

below is copied from their webpage listing the part numbers etc.

Power Steering Part Type
Power Steering Pump
Classic Car Part
No
Reference OE/OEM Number
9654068680, Hydraulic Pump, Power Steering Pump, Suspension, Coil Springs, FEDERBEIN, 277A9 277.A9 9654068680, 500058001, 527756, 527760, 5277A1, 5277A2, 5277A5, 5277A6, 5277A7, 5277A8, 5277C1, 5277C2, 5277C5, 5277C6, 9636716080, 965560580033, 965560580177, 965560580321, 9658539680 L06, 966128510101, Bomba hidráulica, DEM#900386, Feder Stossdämpfer, Federbeine, Federn Stossdämpfer, Federung, Hydraulikpumpe, Lenkhilfepumpe, Lenkunterstuetzpumpe, Lenkunterstützpumpe, MP8025, Pompa idraulica, Pompe hydraulique, Pompe suspensi, Pumpe Lenkung, Servopumpe, Sospensione, Suspension pump, Suspensión, Steering Pump, Power Steering

As you can see the 5277 remains the same but there are many compatible variations on the last 2 characters.
Its up for £750 and I just want to be sure before ordering it.

Hi Gino - There was a typo on the '5' - have corrected it now.

No that pump is not suitable at all - that one is for a MK II C5 - completely different

It is possible that a specialist (e.g BBA Reman) may be able to re-code the VIN on a second hand ECU (of the correct model). They may even be able to repair your old one.

The VIN doesn’t need coding Mike, it’s just used to configure the ECU in the BHI at factory for the vehicle specific options such as engine type, saloon estate and possibly some other options.

It may be worth ringing BBA REMAN up to see if they do these ECUs

Thanks for the tip, I had never heard of them before but I have just emailed them and looking at their website I would say it looks hopeful for an exchange or repair. Really struggling to find a suitable pump/ecu. I got a call from dealers today saying they are closing for 6 weeks so I have collected car and will endeavour to find a suitable replacement.

Re: X7 suspension woes

The units are made by 'Cinch' but it depends on what the actual damage the 'spike' has done. If it has fried a component, it may be a matter of identifying and replacing one or more components - assuming BBA know how to test these and the availability of the specific components. As for programming - if the ECU itself has been corrupted, it should be able to be reconfigured by PSA via a download. However, if the ECU itself has been fried then the costs may start going up if they can source one... but worth asking for sure.

Re: X7 suspension woes

 UNBELIEVABLE!!
I've fixed the car and although relieved I am hopping mad at the reason! It was the replacement rear height sensor from eurocarparts!
While tinkering under the car I noticed that the replacement sensor arm was triggering the suspension in the opposite direction to what it should be. I cleaned up the old sensor, fitted it and low and behold the suspension now goes up and down in the right direction! At no point did I remove the clamp and dog bone from the car, i simply loosened a bit and rotated.
I've set the suspension height and now the car does up and down on the buttons and settles at the correct height each time.
My explanation is that it was that broken wire identified and fixed by garage and not a duff rear height sensor that caused the initial problems. Fitting the duff replacement height sensor just muddied the waters. I am not impressed with eurocarparts and will put in a letter of complaint. This could have cost me thousands to fix!! {garage wanted £1500 for the pump and £1200 to replace it)
I also noticed that the replacement sensor was not nearly as sensitive as the original because it would take 5mm movements to get a response from the suspension, the original only took a 1-2mm and even tightening up the clamp had to be done carefully so not to move the sensor arm and lose the correct height settings.
I think the part is a Friday afternoon "special" and not fit for use.

When he was alive citronut (Malcolm) would not use ECP, as he found the quality of the parts they supplied was questionable (although he put it more bluntly than that!). His name for them was Euro Crap Parts.
