Every time I have changed an EGR valve it was low down on the back of the engine, loads of stuff to remove to get at it usually a couple of secret bolts too.

Looks like the EGR might be screwed into the intake manifold?

Injector pipes were only available as a complete set

Apparently still available, but at £96 a set. You might be able to get one off a scrapper, but this engine is pretty long in the tooth now, so perhaps not...

Does look like screw-in (with sealing rings) from the photo above. :?:
Have you really got a split steel injector pipe? Most unusual.

I thought it was the pipe bringing fuel to the injector pump that split?

Right, managed to twist the egr off. It just unscrews but was pretty stuck. Managed to break the nozzle on the fuel housing lid in the process so have had to order another £16.89 for lid & clamp on ebay (pattern parts). Also bought a new Clip for egr (4.99 on ebay)
Luckily removing the egr left me enough space to remove the broken injector pipe. So pleased I didn't need to remove manifold
Very grateful to Casper from dispatchexpertscudo.org for telling me how to remove egr. I never would of worked out that it unscrewed.
Just waiting on the parts now. Will update when fitted. Hoping I haven't damaged engine. It gave a terrible death rattle before stalling.
Thanks Richard for the diagrams and parts info. That's a great help.

Thanks again Richard for part info. managed to locate them on ebay
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fuel-Lines-1 ... 3185761560

I've seen a second hand set for £15 that look fine so might just buy them

I can't imagine this is a common failure - 2nd hand should be OK.

Yes it's a strange one Richard. No work had been carried out on engine lately where it could of got damaged. It's a really clean break/split. Have ordered the second hand ones.

Right, all parts fitted today. Tried to start it.. sounded like it might fire up but then died. Primed it and tried several times but it didn't really want to know. A couple of small efforts maybe. Battery is now weak so got it on charge.

Got it going! (eventually) but it died and I could see the fuel filter housing was leaking so drawing in air. The pattern part rubber seal is a poor fit. It does go on the underside of the lid and not the housing? Reason I ask is I just saw this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-Citr ... SwPeRd-24g
And it's thrown me? I'm thinking of putting a one way valve on the clear plastic feed that goes to the pump. Has anyone else tried that?
I shall just keep trawling the net for an original housing lid

Some diesel filters (eg Purflux) already have a one-way filter built into them.
If your set up doesn't include one for some reason, not a bad idea to fit one.
An air leak will cause havoc with starting.

EDIT...
However, if the air leak is before the filter (eg a fuel heater on XUD engines - but looks as if you might not have one of these), a non-return valve won't necessarily help, as the air will just get passed through. What a non-return valve placed near the pump will do is give the engine a better chance of starting properly, even if it then has to deal with some incoming air. Only good solution is to find the air ingress point, and eliminate it.

I haven't watched the whole video, but he seems to have homed in on what he says is a "diesel return pipe (hose)". These just return fuel to the tank, and an air leak in one of these will not give the pump a problem. It is the supply system that needs looking at.

A temporary length of transparent tube placed (with sound joints) between filter and pump will show whether air is being passed to the pump. If air is present, transfer the clear pipe to before the filter, and check there. That will tell you whether the filter is leaky.

All the supply pipework, as well as filter (and any fuel heater) and pipe coming up from the tank, is under suction, so fuel leaks may never be visible. Air gets sucked in, but fuel may never leak out - annoying.

Thanks for that Chris. I've never had any problem starting her before the injector pipe split & breaking the filter housing lid so I don't think I have a problem elsewhere. The injector pipe is nicely sealed now it's just the poor fitting pattern part fuel filter housing lid that is not seating properly. I did see Air in the clear hose that leads from the housing to the pump but i'm sure it's entering through the lid. I am going to try and source an original one and hopefully that will be that(fingers crossed)
