Citroen Xantia X2 suspension height instructions needed

Post by Nick Orfanidis »

Hello
I'd like to ask if there is a way to adjust the front suspension height. I 'd like to make it a like bit lower , when it is at the normal state. When I see it at the normal state, it seems to be a little higher than the rear height. I know , that this is the normal geometry of the car, but it looks so ugly to my eyes... So, is there a way to adjust only the front suspension? Has anyone done it so far? If there is a way, and I low it 2-3cm at the front, will I have any problems?
Thanks in advance for your answers!

Hi Nick,
Height going out of adjustment is not unknown. Could also be a height-corrector linkage problem.
You should set it to factory-correct height. If you modify the Normal ride height by as much as you suggest, there is a danger of the hydraulic suspension struts not being able to cope, and coming up against their end (limit) stops.
Someone here should be able to post the manual pages for height checking.

Thanks Chris!
The height is set at the factory settings. It hasn't gone out of the factory adjustment. I just wanted to low it a little bit. But if it will bring me problems, to the suspension functions, i'll leave it as it is. Especially , here in Greece, where the roads are not in very good condition....

You could probably get away with lowering by 1cm at the front, if needed, but I wouldn't recommend any more.

Be aware that on an older car, the static height when parked is often higher than the running height, because the anti-sink valve closes before the suspension has settled after switching off the engine (and the driver has moved his weight out of the car). This leads to a nose-up attitude when the car is parked, more commonly found on cars with hydractive suspension due to valves with internal leakage.

The front ride height (while driving) is fairly critical to the suspension geometry, good ride and driveshaft life, so I would not recommend moving from the factory settings. the rear height probably is not as critical.
