Radio Aerial Antenna C5

Post by xf1ref »

Hello Everyone,

I have a strange noise from the back side of the roof panel in the area where is the aerial antenna. On Citroen service I saw that the aerial base is fixed with a nut from the roof.
I'm wondering if there is a way to remove the aerial antenna base without removing the whole roof panel? If not, does anyone know if the roof panel is glued or how can be removed?

On earlier C5s at least, the aerial is accessed through the rear interior light assembly.
Have a look and see if your's line up.

I have removed the rear light but there is some kind of frame made of foam. Is called ROOF WEDGE on diagram from service citroen.

Unfortunately it's a bit more involved on the X7, so I would definitely check the units in the first part of the procedure below, in case they are faulty.

Radio Aerial Units Only:
Rear A.PNG
Disconnect the connectors ( as "a", "b").

Remove:
  • The bolts (2), (3)
  • The audio equipment aerial units (1), (4)
Radio Aerial

Remove:
  • The rear shelf
  • The quarter panel lower trims
  • The rear screen pillar trims
  • The quarter panel trims (Rear )
Partly release:
The headlining
Rear B.PNG
Rear C.PNG
Disconnect the connectors (At "c" and "d").
Release the harness (5) (Radio aerial) ( as "e").
CAUTION: Always replace the headlining if
there is any damage or marking.

Release the harness (5) (Radio aerial ( as "g").
Move aside the headlining (6).
Release the harness (5) (Radio aerial) ( as "f").
Rear D.PNG
Rear E.PNG
Move aside the headlining (6).
Unclip: The fixing ( as "j") using trim tools.
Release the harness (5) (Radio aerial) ( as "h").
N.B.: Gain access between the headlining (6)
and the roof crossmember (7) (In the direction of the arrow ).
Move aside the headlining (6).

Unclip: The mountings ( as "k") using trim tools.
Release the harness (5) (Radio aerial).
Rear F.PNG
Rear G.PNG
N.B.: Gain access via the rear courtesy light lamp.
Cut: The soundproofing (8) ( as "l").
Move aside the headlining (6).
Remove the nut (9).
Rear H.PNG
Detach and remove: The audio equipment aerial (10)
and the audio equipment aerial harness (5),
(In the direction of the arrow ).
Notes:

CAUTIONS:
  • Guarantee the sealing between the base and the roof to prevent the entry of water.
As the roof light is located near the base, poor sealing could result in short circuits.
  • Take care to reposition the harness correctly when refitting the nut (9).

Apply a continuous bead of mastic, approximately 0.5 mm thick, to the audio equipment aerial base (10) (Index: "A1").
Proceed in the reverse order to removal.
Tighten:
  • The bolts (2), (3) to 0,8 da.Nm
  • The nut (9) to 0,8 m.daN
2 minute job as you can see :-D

Just wow, I'm thinking maybe I can live with that noise :-D
Looks like I can get to that nut through the rear lamp but I have to cut that soundproofing foam.
Thanks a lot for the procedure , It's really helping me.

No worries - at least you know what is involved - checking the units under the rear parcel shelf should be relatively easy to check condition.
