Citroen Picasso Desire door won't open from outside

Hi everyone,

I own a Citroen Picasso 1.6 Desire 2008 plate. Recently I had a scrape with a bollard, and now the rear left hand side door won't open from the outside. It still opens from the inside, but when you try the outside handle nothing happens. You don't hear anything moving in the door.

Any ideas how I can rectify this as I have an Mot due soon?

You'll need to take the door card off, then you'll see more clearly what's not happening.

As Pete says, you really need to have a look at this as the MOT states "Driver and passenger doors must open from the outside using the relevant control".

Does the vehicle lock ok? If so, the electronic module will likely be alright. We really also need a VIN to determine the exact system you have as there are differences in the locking mechanisms depending on build date. But generally speaking, some models have a cable link from the internal door release handle to the door lock module. As this is operating when you open the door from the inside, it is likely that it is the external door handle mechanism that has possibly become detached and / or damaged.

Once we have your VIN, I can put up a diagram to show the components.

There's only one design on Xsara Picassos, and it's rod operated. Likely that the impact has dislodged the rod or broken the handle. Door card off and it will become apparent; should be able to get parts from a scrapper.

For some reason I was looking at the C4 Picasso - which has at least 2 different types.

So it will likely be item (2) - the outer door control rod that may have become detached.
