New DS7 owner

Post by Carld90 »

Hello all, just got my ds7 ultra prestige 180 on an 18 plate. Had it a day and three lights came on engine fault, ad blue and the spanner. Would these all be linked to just the Adblue being low? Disappointing that the dealer should’ve checked the levels / topped up and reset computer etc. They’ve been to collect my car and gave me a courtesy car just annoying! Thank you

Yes this is all down to the AdBlue being low. Once topped up and driven for a few miles they should all dissappear.

The warning will be concerning the Adblue level needing topping up. It's used for the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system to greatly reduce the Nitrogen Oxides. The SCR system sits upstream of the DPF.

This is a customer service item and needs regular topping up when the warning comes up. Not really the dealers job to be honest, as it's like topping up your washer fluid / engine oil.

It's the dealer's job if they have just handed over the car, these things should be checked beforehand. I'd take my car back if there wasn't any washer fluid too. When I'm paying 40-50k for a car I'd expect them to at least top up the fluids for me.

Personally i have never had an 'Ad Blue Low' warning message come up but i believe there is a very significant distance left (1000 miles) when you get the warning so plenty of time to fill up. Difficult to believe someone would drive around with the message showing for that long. Maybe there is a leak or something else adrift? You will just have to monitor usage carefully.

I would agree if it was a new car - it's not. As a second hand car, would you also be expecting Eolys to be topped up, new discs, pads, clutch, - all these are serviceable items.

There's serviceable items and serviceable items. A clutch is a serviceable item but I wouldn't expect it be replaced before buying a S/H car. I would expect the wiper blades, washer fluid and brake pads (amongst other items) to be checked before I bought it from a garage though.

Talking specifically about Adblue - it's not measured (as in a displayed gauge), so if the light telling you to top it up was not on when it was sold, the garage wouldn't of been any the wiser....

It does give you plenty of notice to get it topped up, so not an issue really and you can't blame the dealer as they wouldn't of known. If the warning message to top it up was displayed at point of sale then of course I'd have expected them to top it up or at least bung in 5 litres - otherwise it won't be a good selling point with the warning on.

If it was a dealer then their procedure is to evacuate the current contents of the Adblue tank and then refill with a measured amount so it wouldn't matter if the warning wasn't showing.

A dealer will empty a full tank before refilling. They did it to me at a service despite me specifically telling them I had just filled the tank up.

This exact thing has happened to me. Had the car 4days and while driving, all three lights came on but the countdown was instantly at starting impossible 0 miles. I managed to get home and top up the Adblue 10litres, but the car will not start and the keyless start button is red. I’m confident this just needs resetting but no idea how to do that without involving the dealership. Any ideas??

Did you buy the car from a garage or was it a private sale?

S/h from a dealer. Didn’t expect them to check or top up and we’d already bought the Adblue to top up just had to wait to return from a work trip (partner was driving the car). Just curious that there were no miles on the warning light straight away.

If the vehicle has completely run out, you MUST follow the exact guidance in the owner handbook, as there are time conditions that you must comply with before turning on the ignition, otherwise you can end up with issues.

I'd contact the dealer directly as you should have warranty on it. Let them come out and try to do a reset - you can't do it yourself with out all the dealer-level diagnostic equipment.
