Well, the 407 is finished...

I replaced the oil cooler with a 2nd hand cooler and I've flushed about 70 litres of AW-1 (JWS 3324) transmission fluid through it. The fluid coming out is now as clean as the fluid going in so here's hoping... [-o<

I had 10 litres of Millers Oils JWS 3324 I'd ordered from Opie Oils that was £62, then I used 3 x 20 litre tubs of Smith & Allen JWS 3324 that were £84.99 each... So it's had over £300 worth of gearbox oil to get it flushed.

I also dread to think how many gallons of water were flushed through it with the hose in the header tank and a pipe routed into a big tub to catch the oil coming out of the cooling system. I've spent hours on it.

It's done about 4-500 miles since the problems were identified. Over 20 litres of fluid was just changed after running it up and down the gears on the ramp before it even got near the road. I was beginning to wonder if the fluid was going to come clean but thankfully it did.

Yesterday I replaced the coolant bottle as I couldn't get the oil and staining off the old one and did another oil change before doing the 63 mile round trip to the office today.

Tonight, I've done the final flush and set the level in the gearbox so now it's up to the gearbox gods to see if the car is going to behave or not.

Tomorrow, I'm headed to Peterborough for work... let's hope it behaves!!

David.

That is one impressive amount of cleaning, David!
To finish off the cleaning of the cooling system, and remove the very last of any oily coating/residue, I'd recommend Liqui-Moly Radiator Cleaner 300ml, code 2506. Just follow the instructions on the can. It really is excellent stuff.

It's had 3 or 4 doses of cooling system flush through it. Can't remember the make though.

I've done over 100 miles with the new coolant bottle fitted and it's still spotless so it seems to be nice and clean.

Well, we made it to Peterborough last night :)

340 miles covered between leaving home, popping into the office, and arriving in Peterborough. Average economy of 49mpg achieved and half a tank of fuel left.

Home again this evening so lets see what happens... fingers crossed!

Right, looks like I've got a job for the Christmas holidays :D

I've ordered the main timing belt kit and the fuel pump belt and tensioner as well. There is a feint vibration at idle that's a bit annoying as it's not there on the 407 so I've ordered the engine mount that sits on the chassis leg too.

I'll treat it to a new coolant bottle too as the one on it has gone quite yellow.

Time to do a bit of Googling now and see how bad a job it's going to be!

Doesn't look TOO bad....maybe! I'll find the bit about tensioning the fuel pump belt tomorrow.

I've been doing little bits and pieces to the C6 since it arrived home. I've obtained the Certificate of Conformity from Citroen, I then obtained the Certificate of Mutual Recognition from the Vehicle Certification Agency, and the DVLA have approved all of the paperwork for the V5. I should have a number plate assigned to it on Monday or Tuesday and a logbook in the post not much after the end of the week. They're giving me an age related plate so it'll be on a 12 plate :)

The pillar trims on the car were absolutely disgusting.

I've been doing a bit of searching for the right fabric and seem to have come up trumps with the fabric from a company called Woolies in Peterborough.

I've spoken to a local trimmer who has agreed to recover them for me if I supply the material as the stuff he has isn't a close enough match.

The car is now on the ramp in the workshop ready to have the timing belt replaced. I'm hoping to get this done tomorrow. Today I started by giving everything a quick clean up. The brake discs on the car are brand new but there was a bit of surface corrosion appearing on the bell of the disc so I ended up painting the calipers and discs too.

Hopefully tomorrow will see the timing belt done. The car is currently wearing 2 spare wheels as I've taken all 4 of the alloys off to get them refurbished as they're a mess.

After that, the only thing I want to get done is a full paint correction and a decent wax sealant on the paintwork.

The actual belt itself doesn't look to bad, it's just the amount of stuff that has to be removed to get to it that's a nightmare!

Well, the C6 is stripped to do the timing belt. The strip down itself wasn't difficult but there is a lot of stuff to remove to get to the belt.

A friend of mine pointed out that when zooming in on my belt inside the red circle below you can see threads hanging out of it so I reckon I've caught it in the nick of time!
C6 Timing Belt.jpg
Annoyingly, I'm still waiting for the tool that I ordered 10 days ago to arrive so that I can pin the crankshaft and get on with it. I also ordered the other timing belt and tensioner that runs the fuel pump on 21st December and it still hasn't arrived either. Getting fed up with sellers not posting stuff quickly at the moment!
