Re: Life on the edge - the diary of a C5.
Hello Friends!
I reckon I've had a narrow escape.
Papa said "Oh, dear, how tiresome" or something like that when he found the leak on my front suspension was the vent pipe that had become misaligned. He cleaned up my rear strut while muttering about a rebuild kit. No doubt big hammers will be involved! However, he pronounced my rear brakes as in fine fettle!
No, where I had a narrow squeak was with my headlight. By getting positively brutal with the tin cone he has aligned my powerful main beam properly although he did scare me by saying something like "I say, this is not on" and tapping the front "glass" of my faulty lamp unit. I think he was seriously thinking about doing me a serious injury.
Thankfully he relented so I'm just waiting for my retest.
Goodnight, all
Love

It's a good job papa didn't clobber your headlamps, or you'd be off to Specsavers for a new set of glasses

Hello, Friends!!!
I have new oil and (fanfare):
A NEW MOT!!!!!
The Old Fool is happy that his repairs worked. However, did you HAVE to squirt me with the jet wash just there? Very embarrassing!! My new MOT does make it worthwhile.
While fixing the rear suspension leak - he has promised me a rebuild on the cylinder on that side - he removed the rear wheels and checked my back brakes. He pronounced them as OK. OK? O bloody K????? They are the best brakes on the street with powerful ABS action, able to stop a big girl like me on the proverbial sixpence. What is a sixpence, never understood that? Whatever.
It will be nice to be back at Moseley on Monday among some of my many automotive friends. I like Moseley. It makes my people happy.
Worried about Papa though, he is moving like a 2CV with seized suspension.

Hello, Friends!!
I've been quiet for a bit because I have been A Good Girl!!
However, some rotten swine has shoved a screwdriver in my driver's door lock and broken the cylinder. Last time Papa was able to get some 2nd hand locks and sort them that way.
Can he get just the cylinders and, if so, how would he fit them?
Or is there some cleverness he can use it fix the cylinder?
Please help, he's threatening the BIG hammer.....

Re: Life on the edge - lock advice needed
Hello, Friends.
The Old Fool would ;Ike to know if Xantia locks would fit. He thinks they look similar and he says he's worked out how to release the cylinder from my door handle.
Should I be afraid?

Re: Life on the edge - lock advice needed
They're different parts. The C5 locks are available to fit your key on order, or random - which means new key blades.

Re: Life on the edge - lock advice needed
Thanks, Marc.
I will try cleaning and oiling the lock. If that doesn't work, am I right in thinking they are Main Dealer parts?

Re: Life on the edge - lock advice needed
£66.76 for the lock with combination specified on order (item 21) inc. VAT. 9170Z6 is the part number, but I'll need a VIN to confirm.
or:
£111.89 for the random lock, part 9170Z7, yes all from Citroen.

I think the reason being is that if they use your existing confidential key code they don't have to go through the hassle of creating a new unique barrel and create a new key blade pattern designed to fit it Steve.

Agreed.
Only used mine once, when I took the battery out at work when the car failed to start.
Same with the Xantia.

Re: Life on the edge - lock advice needed
Hello, MyGlaren
Despite new batteries, Papa cannot get my key remotes to work. He has tried pairing them a few times, even fitting new batteries but to no avail.
Can he get new circuit boards for them? They are the 3 button oval type.
Otterchops.
PS. Can I'm keep, the Hairy Great Fool off my diary page? Any advice welcome!!!

Ay up!
The Old Fool here.
This may be a dumbass question but: what frequency does a 2002 C5's remotes operate at? I've tried new batteries (twice) with no joy. How would I test the fobs to check they are working? And are there any markings to look out for on the board?

Re: Life on the edge - lock advice needed
New fobs can be had from Citroen but expensive - IIRC around £160 + programming.
