2007 Peugeot 207 ABS pump

Post by ceracera »

Hi
After warnings appeared on my dashboard, faulty breaking system, faulty ABS, i took my car to the garage, i was told that i need a new pump, at a cost of £800
Given its age, i could not spend that amount of money to get it fixed, so i have been looking to find a second hand pump, the problem is when i put in the make. year and model, there are several different part numbers coming up.
I have tried to find where i can get the correct part number by using the vin, but i have had no luck.
Can anyone tell me how i can find this information please?

First of all I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to change the ABS unit - not without evidence of it being faulty!

Did the garage provide you with the diagnostic codes? If not, why not? For all you know it might be a simple speed sensor on one of the wheels. A fault on any one of these will throw an ABS error up. Here's the wheel sensors:
207 ABS.PNG
Changing the ABS unit is going to cost you as the braking system has to be drained and bled, not to mention the labour on that - but if it is not the cause, then you've spent money changing it unnecessarily. I would get a second opinion, and get a garage with Peugeot Planet 2000 diagnostic software and ask for the fault codes, then put them up here and we might be able to give you some pointers.

If it is a speed sensor, it will be a lot cheaper to replace. Generally ABS units are robust.

There is also the possibility it is the ABS relay - which is also available separately - but without the codes we are guessing to be honest.

However if you want the part numbers, here they are:
207 ABS B.PNG
(2) The ABS ECU (if not reusing your own one will need coding and is part: 4542N1
(1) The Hydraulic Block is part: 4541FX
(5) The relay is part: 454935 (12V 20/30Amp)

Hello Marc
The mechanic did not tell me of any codes, he said there was a fault on part of the pump that could not be replaced separately,so a new pump was necessary. I have used the same mechanic for many years, and have had no concerns, he spent quite some time looking for the problem, and he did not charge me at all, so i believe him to be honest. However i will take your advice and get a second opinion before i purchase another pump.
I have spent hours online trying to find the part number, i can`t believe how quickly i have had responses, and the help that i needed.
You are amazing, and i am so very grateful.
Thank you so much Marc

These are the Peugeot part numbers - but can be used to search for aftermarket ones. It is very important you get the correct one as there are many variants and all look the same.

If the problem is within the hydraulic block (1 on the diagram) then you should be able to use your existing ECU (item 2), and that will save having to programme the replacement unit.

If only i had found you and this site earlier, all the other part numbers i was given where different, and all claimed to be the correct part for my car! I realised that it was vital i purchased the same one that is fitted, but it would have meant having the part removed to find the number, had i not been fortunate enough to find this forum, Why don`t peugeot make part numbers easily accessible and searchable! I never imagined it would be so difficult. Your knowledge and assistance has been invaluable to me, and countless others i am sure.
Kind regards

Hi Sharon - just to explain a bit more: PSA have their official internal part numbers for everything down to the washer and these are generally the part numbers we provide members with. Some components however are manufactured by suppliers that have their own part numbers and additionally, there may be an international part number used. However with third part supplier databases they are invariable incorrect - especially ebay. Some parts may not actually have a PSA part number stamped on it - but may have the long international number that begins 96**** or 98****. You can use these to also ensure the part is correct- but it does mean having to look for the number on the unit to ensure you purchase an identical one.

The problem is that sellers, - especially second hand sellers often get the parts wrong or provide numbers that may not be suitable for your specific model / variant.

But if you were going to Peugeot and quoted their part number, you would of course get the correct one. The trouble is not everyone wants to pay dealer prices for a new part, so may opt for a used or aftermaket part and this is where the part numbers can be a problem.

Hi Marc
Yes i understand what you are saying, i realised i was not going to be successful from the different versions that came up when searching for second hand, but it was the psa official internal part number that i had been trying to find, the one that you have provided me with for the hydraulic block. If i ever found myself in a similar position in future, where would i find the official part numbers from?
Kind regards

As we have your VIN now, just create a post and ask for what you need and we can pop up a diagram with a part number for you. :)
