Silly thought.
This morning, I thought 'might as well sort the pre/post heating fault' check and replace the dodgy glow plugs, had a quick look to see if there were any tips on you tube, think I'll give it a miss for a day or two or three...………….

Not a bad video considering the restricted space back there though.
A tip for getting at the contacts in those deep connector sockets, use a couple of pieces of curtain wire, it fits well and is insulated, makes it easier to use your meter..

I think you'll find that issue isn't the actual glow plugs - its the glow plug relay that's the issue - but I've had it on all my C5s - always comes up as a fault - nothing wrong with the plugs including starting in sub-zero temperatures first time. I would ignore it.

I don't mind the heat James after serving in Egypt for nigh on a couple of years means I hate the cold, I've just got lazy.

Yes, I've had it on every 2.0HDi Ctiroen I've ever owned - C5s, Berlingo, Xantia. Always the same error, never a problem

Well that's confirmed I need some glow plugs just been out and got the ohm meter on them and only one is working.

The do recommend coating the plug threads with some anti-seize ceramic or copper paste before fitting the new ones - and watch out for the tips as I'm sure you know these can break off.
I know that if you have the P1351 error code then it can also be the relay - but as you've checked the plugs directly I guess it's those in this scenario.

It does look as though the guy in the video has coated the new plugs with copper grease.
Like the bit fishing out the dropped tool?

Good for you, Gibbo! If gaining access isn't enough to put you off, or the collective warnings from the professionals and forum members to not risk breaking the plugs on removal, I salute your tenacity to try and fix the fault. I'm not entirley convinced there's no benefit to be had having a working pre/post heating system, no matter how neglible that may be in our climate.
One tip I learnt to avoid the potential of breaking a plug on removal is to use a torque wrench set at half the manufacturers tightening value. I'm told it should offer sufficient force to undo them while guarding against breakage. Pre-soaking with a releasing agent like plus-gas may be required if they don't want to budge on first attempt.

I was so pleased with myself when I got my glow plugs out after taking root in the head for 200,000 miles and 12 years, that I put a pic up on "Picture(s) of the Day". I wonder if your 2.0HDI plugs are stubbier than mine? The ones on my former 02 reg 2.0HDi (8V) picasso were. If you get them out put up a celebratory pic!

I had my trusty fairy liquid bottle filled with a mixture of ATF and Diesel, and adopted the "screw it in screw it out repeat" technique and tried to persuade as much lube as possible down the "hole" before using the "up down, up down, spin right spin left" repeat and out it came, intact, and remarkably clean as a whistle.
