Mk1 Xantia boost pressure

Post by kiwifrog »

Just wondering if anyone knows what the turbo boost pressure is supposed to be at certain revs for the diesel mk1 ? It seems to be a bit down on power and the turbo was going to be my first check.

It depends on load as much as engine speed, when I fitted a boost gauge to a 1.9 TD in standard trim I saw a maximum of approximately 13 psi climbing a hill flat in 4th gear.
BXs since 1993 built 1.9 TZD turbo, got a S2 Xantia estate, brilliant car! 2013, Xantia HDI LX 110 2000 new car with 122,000, l C2 HDI Rusty rocket, C3 Picasso HDI new to me.

from memory it is standard at 12/13psi, there are a few threads on the various peugeot forums about xud tuning, 12/13 psi comes up A Lot as a standard figure, 18psi is easily obtainable through some simple adjustments,
if down on power i'd probably start at the boost hoses??

I believe some estate models were low boost in order to improve economy, there were also some non intercooled ones.

Gets more confusing, according to my other manual there's 4 x1.9 turbo models
1.9 turbo XUD9 TF
1.9 non turbo XUD9 A
1.9 turbo ( light pressure) XUD9 SD
1.9 turbo ( cat & EGR) XUD9 BTF

If you were to post up the VIN (which will be obscured so only Moderators can read it) a Moderator can look up what your car had when she rolled out of the factory.

There is very little data I have on this, except that you have a 1.9 TD (XUD9TE) engine. The Turbo part number (new) is no longer available bit was part: 96157189. The exchange Turbo part number is: 95668928, again not available from Citroen. Both are listed as Garrett KKK.

So at least you have some part numbers to go on, But there should also be a sequence of code numbers stamped onto the turbo itself which may prove useful in sourcing a spare or for getting repair quotes of further info.
