Banjo pipe/bolt joint query

Post by Med_tech3 »

Hi.
I have recently changed the turbo on my 1.6hdi C4 Grand Picasso. Since changing it, it leaks oil from the banjo pipe. I did install new copper washers but it is coming out from where the pipe and banjo end meet. The banjo end is also free to move up and down on the pipe but stops before the pipe pokes out into the hole in the banjo. Is the banjo pipe faulty or do I have to twist it into a certain position to get a good seal? Unfortunately I never checked the pipe when I initially took it off.
Thank you
Simon

Thank you.
It is knackered. The end has broken. I need a new pipe. Unfortunately I don't know what engine type I have. There appears to be different pipes for the 90 and the 110. How can I tell what version I have? My reg is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] if that helps?
Thanks

If you were to post your VIN here (which, for security reasons, will automatically be obscured; however, the Moderators will be able to read it) the Moderators can look it up on the Citroen systems, and let you know what your car had when she rolled out of the factory.

I'm pretty sure the C4 GP only came with the 110 version of the engine, which gives the part no as 037968 at £61.85 ( FFS!). Several on e-bay starting at <£20. But, post up the VIN and I will confirm the part no.

If you haven't done so already, then remove the sump and rip the strainer out of the oil pick up, otherwise you will probably end up with no oil pressure after 6-7k miles... Oh, and if you didn't remove the filter from the turbo banjo bolt, then do that as well, otherwise your new turbo will probably last about 5 miles....

Yes, part 037968. Don't forget there was a modified lower bolt (number 5) part 037660. Copper seals (Number 7) are 015708.

They did do the C4 GP in a 138 2.0 HDi version too.

I was thinking about the 1.6 - it was not offered in 90 BHP 16V in the C4 Pic. The modified lower bolt is the one with the longer filter - I would keep the original and bin the original filter.

Thank you for your help. :-D

I will get a new pipe from EBay. I have already removed the sump and cleaned it out. I cleaned the strainer too. I have tightened the fuel injectors. My original turbo failed due to the return pipe being completely full of carbonised crud - so much so that not even carb cleaner would pass through it! I will remove the filters out of the banjo bolts. I have new copper washers coming too.
I am going to get the car working and then sell it - partly due to the hassle I have had from it for the last year and partly as I no longer need a seven seater.

Hi

I bought a secondhand one from a breakers on Ebay. It arrived today but the turbo end banjo moves up and down the pipe just the same as the one I have that leaks. I don't want to install it and find out it is also faulty.
Do they move up and down the pipe anyway or is this one broken as well?

Thank you

I'm pretty sure mine was loose on the pipe as well, wondered how it worked, but it didn't leak!

Oh Ok.

Maybe that is how they are. I am going to try to pressure test it later. I don't want to fit it and refit the DPF just to find out it leaks like the original!

It seems to hold pressure at 200mmhg but that is only about 4 psi so quite low. It may not keep a seal once in place. I will check my original pipe the same way to see if that also holds pressure. Hopefully it won't so that proves this pipe is better than my original.

On the C4 Picasso mk2 DV6C engine is the filter inside the banjo bolt still a feature? Does the modified part 037660 lower bolt have no filter?

Can people pull the filter out themselves?

The revised part 037660 still has the filter in as you can see from the picture below - look at the top of the bolt and you can see the white plastic filter (arrowed).
