Agree with that: the standard advice is to replace both together. DMFs are now, unfortunately, regarded as consumable parts.

So I've been to a mechanic, a small Citroen dealership.

They told me it's best to change flywheel and clutch, of course, and I will do so.

But one thing was a bit odd, he was really surprised that my clutch/and or flywheel only lasted 60000 kilometers. He told me he this is really strange since they have not had any C5's with flywheel problems before 300 000 km. He said it's really not a common problem on these cars. That's the total opposite of what I've learned online.

Something that may damage the DMF is towing a braked trailer. Reversing with such a trailer will put a greater load on the clutch assembly than with an un-braked trailer, as (because of the way the brakes work on a braked trailer) you are pushing the braked trailer with its' brakes on.

I had to have my DMF and clutch changed at just under 40,000 miles! The previous owner had a towbar fitted - so I suspect that was probably one of the contributory factors. Towing really seems to take its toll on the DMF. I had the tow bar removed when I bought her from the dealer.

Hill starts take their toll on them, too - especially in reverse, and on vehicles which have a higher reverse gear ratio.

Modern non-asbestos clutches (some made from resin-impregnated glass-fibre), welcome as they are, just don't have the durability of their ancestors. The blue smoke and smell from a modern clutch 'used in anger' properly (eg on a steep reverse) shows this up.

Our second and sudden DMF failure (2003 RAV4) reduced the clutch plate to a tangle of glass-fibre string and spring-steel plate.

Okey, thanks, good to know if I ever get a trailer. Haven't had one for the last 10 years. Have used the towbar once on this vehicle.

A smallish trailer should be fine - but if it was a caravan or something heavy like that, then of course extra weight and clutch intensive manoeuvres will no doubt be worse for them.

Btw. This will cost me about 750 euros in total with the labor.

I've changes brake discs, pads, all wheel bearings and now the clutch and dmf, in the period of 3 months. Theese repairs already exceeds the value of the car, if sold.

About 500 euros a month on car repairs.

I can bet you, when I change the clutch and flywheel I will drive maximum a month before the eolys is low and dpf will need replacement.

I'm not looking for pity, I just didn't foresee the clutch/dmf to fail on me. The other stuff I'm OK with, beeing consumed as I drive. Not the dmf/clutch after 60k km.

Oh I forgot to mention, the new clutch and flywheel that was installed 2015 was all Citroen original parts from a Citroen dealer.

That's reasonable for Swedish prices.

My clutch has been slipping intermittently for the past three years.
It will slip a bit several times an hour for a few days then not slip again for a month, although it is slowly becoming more frequent.

I took the car in to have a replacement alternator fitted before Christmas and asked about a new clutch and flywheel which would have been around £900 (€1038)
This was at a very trusted Polish garage that while they are not the cheapest are very reliable and always do a good job with whatever parts I ask and I always ask for OEM or better.

This car has done >330,000 miles (531000Km).

I will buy the parts myself and a friend that is a mechanic will change it for me. He estimates it will take him one full day of labour.

Now I'm checking the parts and Im noticing that there is two different sizes of flywheel/clutch. 235 and 240 mm. Both seems to work on my car, based on my registration number. But I guess both the clutch and flywheel needs to be the same, both either 240 or 235. Not a 235mm clutch and a 240mm flywheel. What should I order, 235mm or 240 mm? Any advantage with bigger/smaller?

Post up your VIN (which will be automatically obscured, but the Moderators can still read it), so they can see what the car had when she rolled out of the factory.

Im thinking about going for the LUK 600 0136 00 RepSet that includes everything.

Happy if any moderator could verify that it will fit my VIN that is posted in my post above. Would appreciate it! The website sais it will fit, based only on my license plate number.

None of those are correct. Never use your registration, only 60% reliable at best. Always get the ODM part number and use that to ensure you get the correct parts.

The Flywheel is actually 277 as you can see under part number 11.

The first part numbers are the OEM ones and where there is another > 3 yrs that means an equivalent part for older cars that is generally cheaper. Parts with ‘RP’ in front of them are the later replacement part numbers that have superseded the original part number.

Thank you. What a happy surprise, of course I just happen to have the biggest and most expensive flywheel ever known to mankind on my version of the C5.

I will also check if they fitted the correct one last time, the part number is on the receipt. But I guess I can't do anything even if it's the wrong type, since it is 4 years ago now.

Thanks, will order the LUK RepSet with 0532-T0 wheel.

Edit; I got a bit confused now with the diameters, autodoc tells me the OEM 0532-T0 on a 235mm flywheel.

This for example has OEN 0532-T0, and is 235mm
