Citroen synergie 2002 speedometer problem

Post by tony1976 »

Morning forum I have just acquired a 2002 Citroen synergie 2.0 hdi which has a speedometer problem in as much as there are no actual total miles showing in the display but trip counter works. When you hit the trip reset button it seems to kill the whole speedometer and nothing works for around 10 mins.

Any help or advice would be grateful

We'll need a VIN, there are different models with different displays - some with 4 dials, some with 5.

Perfect. So this is a Synergie Family Saloon 2.0 HDi 110 (DW10ATED) with manual gearbox 5.

Is the speedometer needle moving according to speed? Is the speedo needle intermittently failing or erratic? If it is then likely to be the speedo cable or either of the end connections possibly worn.

This should be your display:

Hi the needles seem to be working as they should i think.

the speed needle and rev needle seem ok i think.

it's just the digital display that does not show any actual miles but the trip shows how many you have actually covered.

as soon as you touch the trip reset button it knocks everything out.

Ok, so it may very well be a faulty connection inside the instrument display panel or the display component itself. Unfortunately, given the age of the vehicle, I do not any wiring diagrams for this model.

Its not just the bulb behind the milometer blown is it?
On the Synergie/Dispatch when the bulb goes you can barley see the display.

There are no separate control units, only the complete instrument panel. The part number is 6101YC (of course no longer available from Citroen), but shared with the 806 from the same era.

None I can find, but these claim to have one in stock for an 806 with the same part number:

http://www.peugeotparts.co.uk/page1.htm

I can't see it being the tachometer (speed control) unit, or you would have speedo issues which you say are fine. I would be tempted to take the unit cover off and make sure all the connections are nice and tight and that there are not loose wires or plugs first of all.

Apologies my Bad! Too much going on.

The Part number should of read 6101YC. I have corrected my original post now.

Here is the link again with the search enabled on this part number - just do a CTRL F and type the part number to locate it on the web page.
