I would like to remove the panel/cover shown in the picture attached. my attempts so far, yield nothing. there must be some "trick" to remove it. hope that you can help. it is at the back of the center console, under the rear cigarette lighter socket.

It doesn't come off on its own Avi - you have to remove the whole central console as a symmetrical operation. I'll dig out a guide shortly.

Instructions for Central Console Removal C5 X7 (Automatic Gearbox Only)
Move the front seats as far back as possible.
Refitting
CAUTION: Correctly position the front seatbelt stalks to refit the centre console.
Proceed in the reverse order to removal.
Tighten:
Move the front seats as far back as possible.
Unclip: The assembly (10) ( as "n" ); Using Trim Removal Tools. Disengage the assembly (10). | Disconnect the connector ( as "p" ). Remove the assembly (10). |
Remove: The audio system The air conditioning control ( automatic ) Unclip: The glove box (11) ( as "q" ); Using Trim Removal Tools [1]. Remove the glove box (11). | Unclip: Front panel (12) (Central console (/) ) ( as "r" ); Using Trim Removal Tools. Detach: Front panel (12) (Central console (/) ). |
Disconnect the connectors ( as "s" ). Remove: Front panel (12) (Central console (/) ). | Remove the bolts (14) (Central console (13) ). |
Slide the front seats as forward as possible. Electric seats:
Remove the blanking piece (15) (Central console (13) ) (Symmetrical operation ). | Remove bolts (16) (Central console (13) ) (Symmetrical operation ). |
Intentionally Blank | |
Open the central armrest. Unclip the diagnostic socket ( as "w" ). Detach:

Refitting
CAUTION: Correctly position the front seatbelt stalks to refit the centre console.

Tighten:
- The bolts (6), (14) to 0,4 ± 0,25 daN.m
- The bolts (8), (16) to 0,5 ± 0,25 daN.m
- Reconnect the battery.
- Check that the electrical equipment is working correctly.

No, nothing on that - the rear 12V socket connector is removed from inside when you have the panels off. The black part is the housing and is part of the overall structure from what I can see.

Here you are:
Unclip the side trim (1) at "a" using trim removal tools.
Disconnect the connectors at "b", "c".
Remove the side trim (1).
Unclip the trim (2) at "d".
Remove the trim (2).
Unclip the side trim (1) at "a" using trim removal tools.
Disconnect the connectors at "b", "c".
Remove the side trim (1).
Unclip the trim (2) at "d".
Remove the trim (2).

You need to lift and roll back the carpet (2) at the rear to expose the trim clips (a). Remove these to remove the trim or expose the other clips if you need to remove the inner trim.
