If this RTV silicone contains tin catalyst silicones - they can shrink and don't have a long shelf life. Some of these can also release acetic acid as part of the curing process. This apparently can attack the solder joints, causing the solder to detach from the copper wire. So as I suppose it should be fine if just holding the bulb into the base as there shouldn't be any solder in the way Kenny. It will need to cure at room temp theough - so probably better to set them and leave them indoors until they're set, but can't see a problem otherwise - they are usually good for high temperature resistance too.

You know I did actually look at that Steve, but didn't suggest it as the price is probably more than the DRLs! :-D

I did consider that but your comments of RTV/Silicone being potentially harmful made it look a viable possibility.

If I were using a PCB, I most likely would. These particular DRLs are just like the G4 Halogen Steve, having long pins that go somewhat to support the bulb in the holder. When upgrading these, we have to actually separate the bulb from the neck shown in the picture below. Once this is out the trick is to secure the generally 'thicker' body of the LED into this crown and then mount the crown into the bulb holder. As each LED is different in construction, they will be of different thicknesses. so a combo of trimming / shaving the innner neck to all ow the LED to be inserted, but tight enough that it will support it.

So there isn't any circuitry in the neck itself, it just needs to be non conductive. There are probably half a dozen designs of LED equivalents so will be a custom solution I suspect for each.

Wish I had taken a photograph of mine as it has a different neck, which fits snuggly into the bulb holder. Hence looking at silicone rubber compounds they would appear to be the solution.
