Checking Level of LDS
Hello All
Is there a way to check the level of the LDS?
I may have a small leak from the off side rear strut, so I want to check if I am loosing fluid.
Cheers
Jack

Re: Checking Level of LDS
Drop the C5 down to its' lowest setting, and then take off the LDS cap. There is a 'basket' type of mesh in there, with some vertical slots lower than others. The LDS should be between these levels (lower are minimum, higher are maximum). This image may explain it;

Hi James
The picture is to show the vertical slots only?
If yes the fluid is not even touching the base of the "basket".

Re: Checking Level of LDS
In this picture there is no fluid. You can see the height difference between the slots. When the car is bottomed out (but not de-pressurised) you should see fluid between the lower and upper levels.

Re: Checking Level of LDS
The fluid levels should be checked with suspension depressurised (ideally), but as James says, put it on the lowest suspension level and wait for it to fully lower. The following diagram shows the levels for a C5 X7 - the BLUE being the maximum fill level and he ORANGE the minimum level.

Re: Checking Level of LDS
Hi
I need to add close to 1.5 ltr of fluid to be between the high and low level!
I will keep an eye on it for leaks

Yes, same, do not fill above the blue mark and check on lowest suspension setting.

Re: Checking Level of LDS
Does it matter whether you do this with the engine running or not? Did mine yesterday with the engine off and there appears to be fluid marks around the half way seam on the tank. I only filled it till it covered the bottom of the cage and I could actually see it (1/2 litre.) Hopefully this is just the residue of the bit that got spilt in the wind

Re: Checking Level of LDS
Level must be between A and B as per my last post, checked on lowest setting, engine can be running.

Re: Checking Level of LDS
Thanks for the quick response Marc. Well I did it with the engine off and suspension on low. Will check again after a few days running around and hopefully will not find further worrying signs.

Re: Checking Level of LDS
Are you suspecting a leak somewhere then?
If not too windy, stick some cardboard down on the ground, under the engine bay towards the centre rear of the engine. Check back in the morning to see if there has been any significant drips.

Re: Checking Level of LDS
So, can lds be fill while engine running? Also what is the right procedure, remove tank cap and the rise and lower the car, or first lower then remove cap?
