Oil light flashing

Post by Relayowner »

I have just bought a relay lwb l3h2 and the oil light keeps flashing. The engine has plenty of oil in it. Also the mileage is flashing as well. Could this be a simple reset needed or have I been conned buying something that needs £££££ spending on it. :welc: feeling sad!!!

Pop your VIN up - there are stacks of variants. The display flashing is probably related to servicing interval exceeded, but I'll need to check using the specific data for this vehicle.

So here are the displays and meanings - if it is the dashes that you are concerned about. Note the following in bold - this can indicate when the oil is due a change not just the level.

When the ignition is switched on and if necessary, the indications of when a scheduled service is due and of when an engine oil change is due are each displayed for 5 seconds in the following order :
Threshold at which a scheduled service is due
Threshold at which an engine oil change is due
Relay A.PNG
Base version instrument panel:
L: Maximum engine oil level indication (trim level 5)
M: First engine oil level indication
N: Minimum engine oil level indication (Flashing dashes)

Comfort version instrument panel:
P: Maximum engine oil level indication (trim level 5)
Q: First engine oil level indication

Another example of the Base Display Unit:
Relay B.png
G: Indication of the distance remaining before the scheduled service is due
H: Indication of the distance remaining before the engine oil change is due
J: Indication that the scheduled service is overdue
K: Indication that the engine oil change is overdue

What is actually flashing is the mileage and the red oil can to the right on the dash

Ok, in that case there was a couple of technical service bulletins where the odometer itself is flashing - and this was related to the hands-free telematics equipment. There were 2 of these TSBs one with associated fault codes and one without - so I can't help you with these as I don't have the actual documents - I only know that they exist.

So if you take it to a dealer they will be able to check the TSB content for you and advise.

Without any diagnostic faults codes, I can't really help further - if the oil can light was on solid it would indicate engine oil pressure. However, with both of the oil lamp and the odometer flashing, then it is something that needs further investigation. Not least because it will be an MOT fail to have warning lamps on I suspect.

Now this has the Ford Puma engine in, so you'll need somebody to diagnose it that has the Lexia with the S1279 module to properly diagnose these commercial type vans.

To answer your question, I would get it looked at sooner rather than later - but as long as you have checked the oil and you are happy there are no other warnings I can't see why you couldn't drive it. But do get it seen to.

Cheers mate. I have booked in with Citroen for Monday am so will post the outcome then. Hope it’s not too expensive hopefully just a case of clearing fault codes. But knowing my luck with vans. In short last van failed mot too expensive to repair bought a dispatch which I was just getting how I liked it for work that was written off last week as insurance company said it was too expensive to repair. Bought the relay on Tuesday now the oil lamp warning came on when bringing it home !!

Best of luck - it may be something as simple as the telematics or hands free kit or even the tracker / locator unit being removed (if it had one) and this could be related to the odometer flashing as per the technical service bulletin - but do let us know the outcome.
