C5 Audio Connection Problems

Post by Hamsterboy »

Hi All
I've got a 2011 C5 Tourer. It's the 1.6 eHDI with the Navi head unit.
There are two connections in the glove compartment (one red, one white) that allow connection to the radio for phones / mp3 players etc.
Problem is when I use a connecting cable and plug my phone in, the sound is absolutely awful, you couldn't listen to anything using that.
Just wondering if there is a better connection option....ideally maybe a bluetooth reciever in the glove box???
I've seen some connecting cables that plug into the back of the CD changer....would they result in better audio?
Would ideally love to use Spotify in the car.
Anyway guys, any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Can you PM or post your VIN so I can determine the exact Head Unit you have. There were several options for that year, MyWay or Navidrive 3D - distinctly different units with different capabilities. I suspect you have the MyWay, which of course does not support Bluetooth Audio Streaming.

There are indeed options that will utilise the CD changer port of the unit to provide basic functionality - Yatour are one brand that provide this sort of option. I'll know more when I have your VIN.

Ok, so just to confirm Pat that you have the MyWay (RNEG) Head Unit.

So as you know only Bluetooth phone support is provided - no Bluetooth music streaming.

Personally, I would avoid the RCA jacks as the sound is pretty awful. There are aftermarket options that can use the CD-Changer port option on the back of your MyWay unit to provide added functionality. As it stands you don't have the CD changer option on your car - so it is not utilised.

Basically, the supplied lead plugs into the back of the Head Unit into the CD Changer Port. The unit then provides a slot for an Sd / MMS card, USB or Jacks for iPods and MP3 players and the like.

This is the kit - not too obtrusive so can be kept in the glovebox which is quite near to the head unit - so should avoid any untidy wiring.
Pat Yatour A.PNG
Here is their Diagram showing Connectivity
Pat Yatour B.PNG
What you will need, is to ensure that the CD Changer is enabled on the Car (using a Lexia / Diagbox) and also that the CD Source is enabled as an Audio Source form the Audio Menu.

Then all you have to do is when creating folders on a USB or SD card for music, create the folders CD01, CD02, CD03 CD04 etc. Then you can place your MP3 files into these folders. You likely won't get the titles displayed, but you will get CD01 and Track number displayed.

Here is the link to the product on Amazon for about £53 - so this might be a quick and easy solution for you

 on the game!

No can do on the Bluetooth Audio - not supported - they do a bluetooth model - but this is only for telephone functions - not audio streaming - which you don't need as you already have the phone on the MyWay. The Head Unit does not support Bluetooth Audio.

Not possible Pat - all that the unit does is mimic the functions of a CD player and allows the various files to play - as long as they are formatted and titled in such a way that a CD player would be able to read them. It simply cannot convert Bluetooth streaming profiles into a playable format. It would not do anything if you plugged a bluetooth USB device into the Yatour.

My radio head unit looks a little different than that though

Should work the same no? Also how about just a 3.5mm directly to the cd changer connection? It doesnt look like it would work though in fairness if the port is expecting a cd changer

Yes, this is just a generic picture from their website to demonstrate the CD naming and structure and to show the sort of display you might get. Ignore the stereo!

No it won't work - the Yatour unit contains the CD connector plug and the unit contains the Jack, the SD Card Slot and USB for your tunes. A 5 minute job.

Yatour BTA offers bluetooth audio streaming and works nicely with MyWay. I only play Spotify on my car after I installed that.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Yatour-Digital ... roen+MyWay

Just don't use that bundled mic, and use BTA only for audio streaming on your phone's bluetooth settings. MyWays internal bluetooth will handle calls nicely and there's no conflict at least with Android phones.

I saw that one and thought it was a bit of a faff as Pat has the bluetooth like you from the MyWay. If this is the one I'm thinking off, all the controlling has to be done from the phone (to select the album), and that only tracks back and forward can be selected from car controls?

Yes, bluetooth audio control is only for previous or next track and pausing (by mute button). I think that's pretty much enough, I don't see viable option to navigate in Spotify via car buttons? And this Yatour BTA doesn't support usb-playback, so it's bluetooth only. I think that usb-playback with folders CD1, CD2 isn't very handy either.
