Re: C5 in for MOT tomorrow
Well I just crawled under (car on drive up ramps) and sure as rain the plastic was all flake. All wire brushed off, rust converter and painted. My bushes seem to be OK but I think I have just caught it in time.
Dogbone finally changed to the new one I have had for six months.
Main sphere block is getting attacked big time....again wired brushed, converter and paint, will "waxoil" it when the paint is dry.
There are two HP lines whose crimped collars are also corroding badly, I urge you, if you have a C5x7 to GET UNDER the car and protect these as a matter of urgency.

Re: C5 in for MOT tomorrow
There is a short rubber HP hose forward of the central sphere block....crimped fitting at each end.....CHECK it.....mine were all flaky with rust on both ends and maybe will not hold much longer.
Love the small welded (to the floor) studs for the rear exhaust box heat shield.....2x rusted off and 2x washers/nuts missing having not been replaced at some time.....wondered what the rattle was so I have stuck the bugger up with black windscreen adhesive as a temporary measure:)
All cleaned, treated, painted and a liberal coat of waxoil .....all else seems dry so fingers crossed

Thanks for the warning - time to get a pair of axle stands me thinks!Stickyfinger wrote:Well I just crawled under (car on drive up ramps) and sure as rain the plastic was all flake. All wire brushed off, rust converter and painted. My bushes seem to be OK but I think I have just caught it in time.

Re: C5 in for MOT tomorrow
Owning a C5 X7 seems like a hell of a hassle! I was under the C1 today, 06 plate.. no rust at all apart from surface rust on the exhaust. You can even tell it's red underneath. All this waxoyling and wire brushing? Not for me thanks!

Re: C5 in for MOT tomorrow
To be honest....I should of done this a long time ago.....some old French thing took my time up
It is not a lot however, easy access and a simple job. It is also exactly the same as any car these days, powder coating is a standard practice (even if sh1t) as it is the cheap way....Do NOT ever look under a 8 year old BMW or Ford.
You cannot blame the C5x7 or Citroen as it is hardly unique in having a few "areas" that need treatment after 100K miles and 8-9 years on roads in the UK winters.

Re: RE: Re: C5 in for MOT tomorrow
C1, 107 and Aygo do not rust. If you see a rusty one it has been damaged and poorly repaired. If you want a small car to simply drive and simple to service they are the car to get. No question in my eyes. Even if they need a clutch, £75 and two hours book time to change it. Yeh but do not loose the box it came in, it badly effects the resale value at the toy fair
There is no rust on the car......just some bits attached to it
(the normal Citroen bits that they spent 60+ years developing to a state of the art system that still corrodes
)

Re: C5 in for MOT tomorrow
Really....I am such a pratt
.....I drove in directly onto the ramps, he checked the Vin, signed on to MOT systems and then I popped his head out the door and called me over whilst laughing his head off.
Lucky for me my local "small garage" is most friendly.....however the whole workshop had a giggle

I doubt even you would manage to get 2 months added on to the MOT!Stickyfinger wrote:Really....I am such a pratt.....I drove in directly onto the ramps, he checked the Vin, signed on to MOT systems and then I popped his head out the door and called me over whilst laughing his head off.
