Managed to find some time this afternoon. Opened the bolts. Could not open the last bolt as it was threaded. Can see last 1 still in.

Need a tip how to get a 8mm bolt out. The 8 socket is slipping and 7 too small. I'm a newbie with diy so any help appreciated. I'm lacking tools

Definitely oil leak. Also oil around spark plugs. I also see the burnt oil on the manifold.

These are pretty good. I have (once) managed to remove a threaded rod that my brother had spent ages trying to shift. The downside is that (where the wrench gripped) the threads were knackered, but as it was somewhat rusty anyway he way going to replace it.

You could try a couple of imperial sockets if you have them, 5/16" and 9/32" are between 7 and 8 mm. For choice, use a 6 sided socket, not 12 sided.

With a flat punch and a heavy-ish hammer, give the bolt a good whack on the head, it will make it easier to undo.

So the head is rounded ....?

if so, a 5/16th socket should do.

I had an incomplete ratchet set. The extension was missing so when I get that piece I'll try again.

Anyway here is another pic

The hose was so brittle it just snapped off. Easiest cheapest way to fix?

Is insulation tape enough?

That is just an oil breather hose, so can be replaced with anything the right diameter that will withstand engine heat and oil fumes. The hard part is joining it without breaking anything else.

I did fix one by finding a piece of copper tube (about 50 mm long) that fitted snugly inside, smeared the outside of the copper tube with silicone sealant, slipped it in and coated the outside of the joint with some sealant so that i could see that it wouldn't leak.

Good find and thanks for posting it here :D

Be aware though there is a second sealing surface below the cam ladder that can leak too and this procedure does not cover that one..

To do that one - basically the same sort of procedure - the camshafts need to be removed...

I'll be shortly doing it on my V6 Activa Project donor engine and if wanted, I'll do a photo-sequence of that aspect of the job and that, along with the one posted above, will make the job complete.

I got the bolt out eventually. The cover seems to be on very tight. Do I just pry it out now with a screwdriver?

@CitroJim that photo sequence would be of great benefit. Hopefully I wouldn need to do it but I have a feeling it could be the problem as I can't visually see any leaks from the cam cover...

Hi

Yes they can be tight...esp with an unknown sticky adhesive type sealant used :)

It lifts a little then you have to slide it up and to the right to clear the black plastic cam belt covers

Bought a mallet to try and knock that cover off. It's like cemented on.

Will I need a torque wrench to put back cover?
