Lower (rear) Ram bush

Unread post by Stickyfinger »

My lower Ram bush needs changing, just wondering if the lower Pin needs changing at the same time ? Good Practice to change it ?
They are not yet listed as NFP on Citroen Service BTW

( I have not split this joint yet so cannot check for damage to it....)

The bush might still be available but have you looked at the price? It used to be £15 then after being out of stock the new price was £150!

Its not listed (that I can find).

I can get a two part mold turned for that which allows a two bonded bush to be poured.

Wait until CitroJim sees this thread. He knows how to make them. Try this;

These bushes are the same as the steering rack bush on a Peugeot 405 ;)

I've got one in a bag at my folks, I'll get the part number off it tomorrow for you Sticky. They're only £9 from Peugeot too ;)

Edit... Just found the part number... 405910

There's also a bush from a Xsara Picasso which is the same. This is the one I ordered. Here's pictures of it here...

Part number for this one is 405911. Currently retails at £11.59, as opposed to the £150 odd they want for the Activa ram bush. This is the part number of the one I purchased. It looks identical to the old bush. I've not yet fitted it as I didn't find out about this one until after I'd turned mine from Nylon66.

well well well, has Jim seen these ?
How do you regarded the harder bush to the OEM one on before ?

I think I will fit it up with the one Jim is turning but I will get a couple of these if for nothing else but to use as a pattern for a Poly set as I am a little uncertain of the advantage of having a solid bush in that joint. Got to go to Citroen later in the week for parts so I will pick up these from the PugShop on the way.

Cheers for that, nice to have options with suspension...I am horrid fussy about it :(

Comments Jim ?

How do you feel about the stiff nylon bush vrs this softer one, do you think it causes changes to comfort/noise/ram action ?

It seems strange to me to have a metal ball joint at one end and a non-flexible on at the other, does this not send the roll bar shock loads to the ram without some form of damping/isolation ?
Would it not cause problems with the Ball Joint socket being stressed/damaged ?

I've had one of Jim's type of Nylon bushes in mine for a while now. I turned mine on the lathe up here from a rod of Nylon66.

It certainly made my car a lot quieter as my old bush fell apart when removed. I've not noticed any ill effects running the new one anyway :)

I can supply most of what you want in torque figures Sticky, if the Haynes manual doesn't tell you. It’s actually quite good for that!

LOL...Haynes, who would of thunk it......I use it in strips with an added wet wipe.

Was there ever a "Citroen Technical" book on it ?

There was a French 'Revue Technique' for the Xantia.. Basically the French take on Hayes but arguably better. I think I may have a PDF of it somewhere..

Your best bet is to look out for a set of genuine Xantia manuals. They come up on ebay every now and again.. The full set is 7 or 8 A4 binders and takes up a lot of space... At least four of the volumes are wiring diagrams!
