rear arm bush's failed, usual fix is find a good second hand rear axle and swap the hole thing over,

its best to find one like for like ie rear disc or drum brakes, there are various cit/pug models that use the same axle

If by chance you are in the west country there is a firm not far from here who will fit a recon axle while you wait - if you wait long enough.

You can buy new pivot pins for £23 each and new bearing sets for £22 per side. Removal of the beam assembly is necessary for the repair.

I think that's the problem, its getting it apart (not very nice, thankfully I've never had to, although seen plenty of others cursing) and back together again.

i havent done this job either, but i have heard story's of people who have attempted to repair these axles, saying on removing the trailing arm it had worn grooves into the cross tube, making it unusable/scrap

That can happen, one bodge is to relocate the bearings slightly.

There is also places that will repair and fit a rear beam on 306.

Once the wheels start tilting the bearing are shot.

They charge a fair whack, though, and you're nearly as tight with money as I am.

Provided you can get the old bearings out and have someone press the new stubs onto your shafts, it's four Haynes spanner territory.

I reconditioned a 405 beam a while back, £100 all in but it was a LOT of work:

I took my daughter's Xsara to this guy in Devon. He did a cracking job. They recon the axle beams on site and will fit you a replacement in about 2.5 hours. They'll also send one out to you for the same price to fit DIY
