Awful buzzing from exhaust

Unread post by Jennie »

Hiya all, I think my cat has gone. Originally it was thought that the back box was catching the bumper but after a shuffle it was still making the horrible vibrating noise at about 2000 revs, it sounds like the cat

Preferably i would like it replaced by Fri for ace cafe, but if not im sure another few days wont hurt? Has anyone got anywhere they would recommend price-wise? A quick look on ebay says about £90

Thanks guys

£90 isn't bad for a cat section. Best to get the old one off and wiegh it in as well as they fetch a few quid for the metals inside them :)

Having had a quick look under mine the other day i'd imagine it a bit of a pig to do the job at the turbo end but plenty of daily soaking with WD40 should help it when the time comes along :)

Thanks for the wd40 tip, i will make sure that gets done. The section from the cat to the back box is only a year old so that end shouldnt be a problem

Im going to have to turn my music up for the 500 mile journey this weekend

Jennie,

Check the front of the cat is not catching on the subframe. It quite often the problem, especially if the mid-section has been replaced and not absolutely correctly aligned. There's not a lot of clearance.

If this is a problem, you'll see fret marks on the cat body where it's been in contact.

A glimmer of hope! Im hoping it is as simple as that but not holding out too much hope as it has been checked whilst i revved it over a pit, but its worth a look, thanks

I just got this annoying rattle at just over 2000rpm fixed, it was the top engine mount, maybe yours is the same annoying rattle.

Bafflepipe might be rattling in the centre box/rear box. Seems to happen on all non genuine exhausts after a few miles.

If the cat is gone it will make a tinny noise, smash the guts out of it.
