Had a 205D few years ago, fantastic car. Did the same thing when running low, think it has something to do with the operation of the pump and the positioning of the intake.
Like you, used it as a reminder to get some fuel.

The trailing arm bearings have gone on near side rear.(P405 GR Est, 1990/1) My old Haynes describes (complex?) procedure, but my later one says dont touch rear suspension at all. Whats the crack? Could I remove trailing arm from a donor car and substitute it on the estate. I presume the trailing arm, bearings and all just push onto the suspension...

Hi All,
I suspect my A/C cooling coil is leaking. Is there another way to gain acesss to the Cooling coil besides dismantling the dash.
My Haynes manual seems to suggest that dasboard removal is the only way to replace the A/C cooling coil.
Any inputs appreciated.

Is the compressor clutch on when the AC is switched on? There should be a click sound comming from the AC compressor.
If the clutch is not working, very likely that there is no R134 A in the system.The first thing I would do is to get the AC recharged. It my be simply that there is not enough R134A in the system.

The rear suspension on the 305 Diesel Estate is identical to the Citroen C15 van! (same dampers, trailing arms, bearings etc).

I've been looking at the diesel 206 as a replacement for our 205. Having a browse through the 206 Haynes manual in Halfords I was surprised to see a change to the familar XUD cambelt tensioning. It seems that special tools are required to measure for correct tension. Does anyone know if it is still a DIY job?

If they are the same set up on yours, to get the drum off you need to undo the large nut, which to undo requires a hefty tommybar with extension. From memory I think it's a 36mm socket. My late ('96) 405 TD has a very heavy clutch action, which appears to vary with engine or steering movement (?!!!). For example after engaging reverse, it will suddenly become stiffer at a critical moment! Only a few suggestions. Providing you're not loosing fluid then it might be a slack/slipping drive belt to the pump or an internal pump problem which means it doesn't provide enough pressure at low rpm. At higher rpm, the vehicle is probably moving anyway making the steering easier and masking the low pump pressure. Whats the PAS like if the 806...

Check the headlight unit to see if it is loose, if it can be moved without force even a small amount in any direction it will vibrate and shake the bulb fillament to bit's.
As for your other problem, it sound's like there is insufficient oil in the sump, does this happen when you corner to the right, if so this will throw the oil...

Could be one or more of several thing's, most likely is air getting in somewhere, first place to look is the leak off pipes, they harden with age and split, if not there check all fuel pipe connection's and the filter housing, to test for this get someone to prime the Injection pump by pumping the rubber bulb, give it a good few squeezes...

FYI - Turned out to be the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor - a common fault on pugs apprently

Its interesting that this problem is worst when the car is cold> this points towards a power steering problem in my book. I would imagine that the PAS ram is sticking slightly ine one position, this is made worst by the fact that the PAS fluid is slightly thicker when its cold.

It may not help much, but I did a sunroof on a Peugeot 104 years ago and it wasn't that bad a job. It wasn't a electric one it was manual. If your headlining is a one piece item, it may be worth removing it for a quick look.

It may be worth having a look at the bottom ball joints and the track rod ends to see if they are seizing. I would do this by disconecting the track rod ends from the hubs, then see how easily you can turn the front struts by hand, and feel if you can move the track rod joints as well. Did same with my 306. Peugeot dealers sell the screw on bit separately. About £8 if I remember. The shorter aerial fitted to most recent models looks good and is the same price.

what is actually the problem with the suspension on your car as I happen to have part of the Peugeot workshop manual for this vehicle.The problem I had with the car was the vehicle sitting down on the bump stops due to the fuse controlling the pump which is located under the bonnet behind the primary bulkhead

i have this random problem on my 205 (1991)
ABS is fine, and cleaning the sensors has helped, but every now and then my light won't go out!!!!
I drive down the road about a mile, turn the engine off + on again, and walla it goes out....
Did you get any answers???

I've got to replace the head gasket on my 1.4 pug, so I may aswell replace the cambelt. This is the model that requires special tensioning, but I've heard from a garage that specialises in these engines that 6mm deflection on the longest run of the belt shows its tensioned about right. I have recently re-built the bottom half of this engine and it starts and runs ok. When it is started from cold it fires immediatley and will rev up (if the throttle is pressed on and off) perfectly for about 5-6 seconds. The first time it was the rotary connector behind the steering wheel which had gone open circuit (and was repairable).

I have a 1997 R reg 306 xsi 16v model, the air filter in this model is a flat panel filter type but it is kind of wedge shaped as oposed to rectangular. I can't seem to find a repalacement for this apart from buying from a peugeot dealer. can anyone offer any help in finding a replacement?

If calipers, pads and discs have all been changed, and you are still having this problem, it sounds like the rear brakes are not getting enough hydraulic pressure, that is, the brake compensator may be either defective, or incorrectly set.

The 306 Cat is located in the front section of exhaust. it's under the floor, but only about 2' from the engine.
Second hand exhaust components are rarely worth any money at all, unless you can find someone who really wants it, and as for the cost of a new one... check with ATS, kwik-Fit, etc etc... or just go to a motor factors, buy it cheaper...
