I've got an alarm fault on my'94 405 but I can't find the control box on the car.
Two Pug dealers said it is under one of the front seats but after a good look I can find no sign of it. One dealer said it is behind a cover plate and that I did not have to remove the seat to gain access.

Hi Jerry - You can find the same starter motor on some of the early BX 1.4's, but there are two different types even on your 205, depending on age. Yes! I always use a pair of spring compressors on the 205 front suspension.

Couple of questions about the Andyspares parts

Does the thermostate have a gasket included it kit (T17606)
or do I need bx/c15 (N17604) gasket
and do you sell the bottom hoses,

Pulley problem for XU7 engine 306 1.8/Citroen ZX 1.8 is common. Original pulley come with rubber in the middle believe to reduce vibration. Hi Josh,
I got this problem on my 306 too.Have a look at the grounding(-ve) cable which is behind and under the engine.Most probably its corroded.Your mechanic will know where it's located.Have it cleaned and if possible relocate it somewhere above the engine.Like mine,as soon as the cable was cleaned I never have this starting problem.

I have had three Peugot 309 diesels and they all did this intermitantly. It usually happened when I was changing down gears. The engine would just cut out but start again immdeiately with the momentum of the car.
I asked a few mechanics about it and they all seemed baffled. I ignored the problem and it just seemed to go away.

I have exactly the same problem on my 405 1.9 TD - began last week in France in 31 degree temp. Engine remained cool while on the move but, when stationery, and when the rad fan should kick in to supplement the cooling system, the temperature climbed alarmingly quickly. Intercooler to manifold gasket has also grown a bit on my ZX.
Not sure about the rubber tube, it could be a vacuum tube for an EGR valve, or to supply a vacuum to a cold start fast idle diaphragm, if it's anything like on the Xantia, can't see it being for fuel but then you do have a fuel leak by the sound's of it.

Hi Stanley - I haven't a clue as to what the trouble is, but you've made me nervous because I have the same engine of the same year in a Xantia. I've heard that sometimes a dodgy auto-diagnostic light can be cured by disconnecting the battery for five minutes or so. If you try that be prepared to loose the radio code.

Usual place on Cits and Peugeots is at the rear of the engine compartment underneath. If your car has a sound-proof panel underneath, take it off and have a look. The pipe is usually black plastic about the same diameter as a garden hose.

i think temp at 90 deg should be alright. Have you checked if there is a live going to the motor from the switch, there may be an earth fault, if so there will be a return live, both terminals on the motor would become positive if no negative is available due to a bad earth point.

Auto painting is not the big deal the pros would have you think. The basic rule of thumb is that perfect is almost good enough when it comes to preparation and time has to be irrelevant.

Hi Dave - My experience is confined to 205s and BXs but what you are probably looking at is a vent valve for the fuel system. If it's in the way of your towbar fitting I would think it could be moved slightly.

Clipped onto the rear crossmemeber is a black thingie with a pipe attatched. It is about 1.5 long and similar diameter, the pipe runs up the wheel arch.

Assuming the fusebox on the 605 resembles it's sister car (Citroën XM) all you need to do is remove fuse 1. This disables the ABS computer and gives you good, old fashioned brakes. The only problem is that come MOT-time you'll either have to replace the fuse or explain to the tester why hte ABS warning light is permanently on.

T42280/T42282/T42284 are indeed the bushes that go around the anti rollbar where it bolts up to the subframe.I don't think this is what you need.
The bushes in the front arms are T42224 which is the one that secures the rear of the front arm to the subframe, and the other is T42226, this is the bush in the front arm that the anti roll bar bolts...

Hi Richard, are you saying that the battery hasn't got the umph to turn the engine quick enough or it cranks ok but doesn't start easey.
My experience with these engine's is that even cranking at pretty slow speed they will start if everything else is ok.
Depends what you call a reluctance to start really.

CV Boots .... split universal .. good/bad?

Hi Stuart - Yes, I've used split gaiters more than once. With four family cars to look after, there's been times in winter when I've needed to. But they are really only a temporary measure. I've found that within months the grease has started to appear along the joint. If you have the tools, it's worth using one made for the joint.

I've got one of the split cv boots that you can get to replace a damaged one. I've been told that there useless and come off straight away/or within a year/or last just as long as usual if glued cleanly, from various people.
I'm going to try it anyway but has anyone got any experiance of these easy fit boots just so I now what to expect, not sure...

Hi Jake, pack some rag round the injector's, start it up and slacken the injector pipe union's in turn one at a time, so the fuel does not go through the injector and the cylinder does'nt fire.
Keep your hands clear of the pipes and injectors and any spray because of the high pressure involved.

I'm probably stepping into a minefield here as I own Citroens and not diesels at that but, having said that, this sounds like a typical air in the system problem. Unfortunately if you haven't had much experience with these sealed systems, it's easy to look in the book and read words of wisdom like now simply undo the bleed screws until all air...

Hi Caspar - Check the flange at the top of the downpipe for leakage of exhaust gas. If you can't do it yourself, go into an exhaust centre.

I've just bought a Peugeot 106 Diesel which drives beautifully except it seems to make me ill!
Every time I drive it I can feel my chest tightening and I feel queasy. I've checked that the tailgate seals tightly but am wondering if there is anything else I can check. Has anyone any ideas? Thanks

Hi Stuart - Don't know whether it's a good idea or not. These things work by making the rubber in the oil seal swell. OK on the one that you're going to eventually replace, but maybe it doesn't do the others any good.

Bit of oil leak (not dripping just very slow, touch wood) probably from crankshaft oil seal. Before I get this fixed, at cam belt change was going to use this any body tried it. It says it won't alter oil and takes 200 miles to work. Thing is oil needs changing about now so can't decide to use old or new oil as the carrier for it.

Hi Stuart, if the clutch is not dissengaging completely it will be a toad to get into reverse without crunching, my old 205GLD went like this and I had to stick it in 2nd to stop the clutch revolving and then quickly into reverse before it started to turn again, it also suffered from quite bad juddering at times, and if I wanted to get down into...

there's a juddering when making slow manoeuvres.
Also when the car is on the move the clutch thuds down quite abit when changing gear, as if you just took your foot straight off the pedal, so you have to be very slow off pedal.

I've checked, and the Rallye rad is actually the same on as 106 MK2 1.6 GTi 16v, GSF ref T17312. In turn, this rad also fits the Saxo VTS.

The white smoke is unburnt fuel most likely due to insufficient temperature being generated.
Air getting into the fuel supply, low compression and worn injectors are all possible causes, but start by testing the glow plug's for open circuit's, I would be surprised if you don't find a duffer.

My 205 dt has started to puff a few clouds of white smoke when it has been left standing for more than 5 hours it feels like a missfire and clears in about 10 seconds never to do it again, if the car has only stood for about 3-4 hours it does not happen. There is no oil being used.

I have a 205 DT and the brakes are C*** I get brake fade and disc warping, It has been suggested to put 1.9 callipers and discs on and that this is a bolt on mod !!. Will this fit inside the awfull 13 inch wheels that my pug has ?

Hi Rory, when a front wheel bearing is in trouble it usually makes more noise turning in one direction and less or no noise turning in the opposit way.
See if you can feel any play or roughness in the bearings, if you can't the only thing to do is go for the bearing on most load when the noise and vibration is at it's worst, that is to say if it's...

Worn main bearing's can make a low pitched rumbling type of noise along with a light vibration at certain load's, most noticable if you let the engine labour, which is what buggers them up in the first place.
Worn Rotodiesel pump bearing's may cause the engine to produce uneven running and vibration at particular revs.
They can also become noisey...

Can you describe the symbol on the light and does it look like a filter.
As for overinflating the tyres I had to do this just to get them to wear evenly accross the tread, to much wear at the sides, only do it if your tyres are not wearing evenly.
Overinflation will wear the centre section of the tread if you give it to much.

Intend to replace the coolant in my 1999 (i.e. new spec) 406 2.0 LX petrol this weekend. Had a quick look over it to know what to expect before I scooted off to buy the antifreeze. Bedamned if I can find the cylinder block drain plug or the thermostat housing bleedscrew.

`Blistering` 306 External Window/Door Seals

I`ve had my `L` Reg 306XRd for 5 months now and I`ve noticed the black rubber/metal trims(?) at the bottom of the windows are blistering - front doors particularly. Am I to assume it`s rusting from the inside out ? What can I do about it and more importantly what will it cost ? (I`ve absolutely no idea what the proper name for these parts are!)...

the handling would be pretty much the same although some people do say the 1.6 is slightly better, on paper the 1.9 isnt much faster but on the road it does pull away from 1.6`s, from what ive heard the 1.6 is peakier it needs to be revved more to really get it going but it does rev more sweetly than the 1.9

How much better(handling and grip)is a 1.9 Also, are they much quicker than a 1.6. Does power steering significantly quicken the steering.
