I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

Your snowflake button (clue in there somewhere) is the air conditioning switch, radiator fan's should come on when it is pressed.
The wires going to your seat are actually going to the seat belt pre-tentioners, which are explosive cartridges that fire at the same time as the air bag in the event of an impact, they take the slack out of the seat...

Good one!
On my Xantia they are 1,050 ohms.
I don't know how the ECU self tests, but I guess that plus or minus 10% would make any difference. I would imaginge that the higher impedence coil you have been sold would work - could well generate a slightly higher voltage. However, the ECU self test MAY reject it. Worth a go perhaps. Don't forget that...

Has your glow time been reduce consitently since the change of glowplugs? If so I would suspect that the wrong plugs (e.g. rapid heat) have been fitted.
Try repeatedly re-glowing before starting and see if that helps.

before you go for the MOT make sure you give it a good thrash down the motorway at 70mph in fourth gear to get the engine nice and hot. make sure when you get there that they check the emissions first coz if you leave it ticking over the thing can get a bit clogged again.
if this fails try putting some injector cleaner in the fule filter...

If the neither the front or rear suspension will rise, this would point to a sudden loss of hydraulic pressure in the suspension circuit, either a serious lhm leak or sudden diaphragm failure causing an internal leak, both will lead to a loss or momentary loss of hydraulic pressure in the case of the diaphragm, this pressure drop would be sensed...

I've just got hold of a '95 M reg 1.9TD Xantia and it has a few niggles.
Firstly, the temp gauge isn't working. The car runs fine and all heats up ok.
Secondly, there is a yellow warning light on the dash directly above the handbrake light that isn't shown in the manual.

Has it still got it's timing belt in one piece, if so is it moving when you operate the starter, they can also loose their teeth besides breaking, if all is ok there it could be ignition or fueling electronics, can't offer you any help on these i'm affraid, hope you get it sorted.

You can fit the clear indicators to any AX. If fitting clear to previously amber, make sure the unit has the orange-bulb type holder (different pin location).
The indicator unit's wiring plugs into the car'sloom the same, although you have to fiddle inside the wing a bit.

I would suspect that they are streach-bolts but could be wrong.
When I did the head on my ZX Volcane petrol, three of them broke and it was a bugger of a job to get the correct insert and drill out the bolt-ends (ally block corroded to the bolts!).
Anyway I think you wont have the same problem as you'll have a iron block.

There's a very easy way of checking XM's and I don't see why it should'nt apply to Xantias as well.
Lower the car to the lowest ride hight (service position)with engine running. Measure hight at a siutable place (e.g. frpm ground to highest point in front and rear wheel arch.
Raise car to highest postion with engine running. Repeat measurement....

Pull the connector from the radiator mounted temperature switch, bridge the wires, if fans start new thermo switch required, assuming the temperature that triggers it is being reached.
If still no joy, trace wiring back from rad switch, relays aren't usually far away.

You may have to alter the height of the rear height corrector, which is not as hard as you may think, if you have access to a 4 poster ramp.

I only have a Haynes manual for BX petrol engines, but the setting for each of the different engines is identical for all of them at 1.0 kgf m or 7.2 lbf ft in old money.

Xantia loss of headlanps

I have lost both headlamps,dashlamps,fog lamps and sidelamps on my 1999 Xantia HDi Exclusive. All fuses checked and double checked by autoelectrician found to be ok. Problem traced to a missing 12V to the headlamp stalk switch(a temporary supply cured all but dashlights)could possibly a failed connector or broken cable but I cannot get a circuit...

My ZX TD appears to have a problem, It is loosing water, and there is pressure in the radiator. There is no oil in the water. It sounds a bit like a cylender head gasket problem. Any ideas. How difficult and how long will it take to do.

Sounds as though you're pointing in the right direction. Sticky H/C's aren't a problem here in Oz mainly due to us not having salty snow (or unsalty rain for that matter) to drive in.
My thoughts are that patience and plenty of cleaning will help. Sometimes in cases like this, ordinary engine oil or engine oil diluted with kerosene will not...

Well, the projects for this wee included changing the front pads, inspecting the rears, changing the lhm, and investigating a problem with the rear corrector.
Basically, the car will rise and fall depending on the load in the boot / towbar, but it will not respond to the movement of the lever from the car.

If it is the glow plugs (quite likely) then, in my experience, you can get away with changing only 3. I've done it twice - once on a ZX TD and, recently, on my C15D van. It starts with a bit of a chug on 3 pots but a SMALL amount of throttle has it running sweetly on all 4 in a matter of seconds. From then on it's fine.

It seems quite common for the BX to be fitted with 175/70x14 tyres instead of 165's. Two of the BX's Ive owned in the past had been fitted with 175s by previous owners, and it didnt seem to make any obvious difference to the handling etc.
Make sure you change them in axle pairs though, one of my cars had a 165 on one side & a 175 on the other. I...

I've found that providing the bolts are in good condition, haven't been used before and within the length tolerance (see Haynes)they can be re-used. The angular torque doesn't feel too excessive for the bolt diameter.
Unless the head needs skimming, the standard gasket thickness should be reused.
Don't know about the turbo.

Hi, Your problem with only getting a little warm air from your heating system is that your heater matrix is knackered. I had the same problem with my tdsx and ended up changing the matrix myself. Its a poor design fault on the xantia, because instead of being horizontal the matrix is vertical and get full of crud over the years... Get yourself a...

my 93 1.9td lx has 168,000 miles on engine used about 1lt oil in 4,000 miles but runs ok, starts straight away, no missfire, settles quickly to smoooth idle but the cooling system seems to be over pressurized and heater is only ever luke warm unless i put on recycle option on heater controls where upon it become hot but not as good as any other...

Hi all,
Having now worked out why my coolant temp was fluctuating so much, it appears the retaining screw that holds the blades onto the left motor has done a runner, hence the blades have now fallen off (but are thankfully trapped between the grill/bumper and motor). Must have been off for a week or two by now!

How about checking that there is a spare wheel, and that the handle is in the boot to unwind it.
( Peugeots used to have a problem where the spare wheels were stolen in car parks - I wonder whether the Xantia has a similar issue - anyone shed any light on it ? )

What is the nature of the wear,
centre of tread = over-inflation
both outer edges = under-inflation
patchy wear = poss suspension fault
wear on one edge indicates wheel alignment problem, was your car tracked on a flat surface, if not the tracking guages will give inaccurate results? Try a four wheel alignment centre to check camber/castor....
