I am a bit too long out of college to remember exactly how to calculate mass due to deceleration but I recall a particular exercise on a 'small' high speed marine engine at 1000 rpm when an alloy piston at the point of reversing direction at the end of the stroke weighed in at just over 1 ton imperial!
Now the 1.9 diesel has a stroke of 88mm and...

Now I know I work in I.T. and should be enthusiastic about modern technology, maybe it's my age but:
I find myself yearning for a simpler age, before mobile phones, personal computers and definately before political correctness.
In fact I think I'd like to go back in time and work on some of those massive engineering projects of the 19th Century,...

And it's all Tom's fault
Get rid of that air con system and let's have our summer back

Hi Folks
On a road near us there is a camera on a pole, same size yellow box as yer regular Gatso, but facing the oncoming traffic. The front appears to have two transparent round windows, one about 9 inches in dia, one half that size. There is no grid on the road, but a little way along there are three raised strips full width of the road, a few...

One of the first safety-camera-carrying motorbikes in the country was launched by Wiltshire and Swindon Safety Camera Partnership on Tuesday 29th June at Salisbury District Hospital at 10.30 a.m and at The Great Western Hospital in Swindon at 3.00p.m.

Can anyone help me please. There is a bird hanging around the gardens by me, I have only ever seen it against the skyline, so it just looks brown, it is a little larger than a house sparrow, and has a very monotonous call, it gives the call continuously, and it sounds rather like someone running their thumbnail down the teeth of a comb.
Hope this...

Well, I recently 'passed on' the 1.4i Pzazz to a bloke, in return for doing some work on my house. It was out of MOT, and hadn't been used for a month or so.
He took it for its MOT (by coincidence) to the garage where I've taken it for the last five years. They tested it after asking him how he came to have it (they know it fairly well!). And a...

I think I may live to regret starting this thread, but I'm getting really p-----d off by the reaction of motoring groups and the tabloid press to speed cameras. People getting all upset at being caught breaking the law!!
I have this theory - that all speed cameras should be covert. The technology exists to fit them in catseyes! Unmarked cars...

OK chaps...here is the mission!
N reg (old shape) rover 214i, 8v, shed.
198,000 miles on the clock and I have to do £1000(+) worth of damage to it without:
a) it looking like it was deliberate
b) injuring myself
I've made a start on the clutch (smells nice...) and it's got a new rattle courtesy of 1/2 the length of the M42 in 2nd gear.
As (i...

There was recently a wondering why thread and that got me to wondering why:
Citroen did not divorce the damping effect from the sphere, say by means of an electro valve that sat in front of the sphere.
That could then be controlled by the driver (within a suitable range) from the cabin to provide the level of comfort (softness) desired ?

Almost at the summer solcstice (in the UK) so plenty of evening light to work on the Xantia, or other projects. So with the best of intentions set out to attend to the rear breaks on the TD but somehow ended up working on the top patio (yes I have a botom patio as well). Now I know power tools and alcohol don't mix but somehow every time I set...

Does anyone have some undercover (preferably, but anything will do) storage space available for beer tokens? Spare corner of a barn? Need to be big enough for a Citroen CX...
This will hopefully be a short term requirement (a few weeks in the coming month or so), but if anyone has any for a more permanent arrangement I know of someone else who is...

Just like to share my thoughts on the xsara.I had 1 on loan last week while my car was being fixed.Dont mean to upset any owners out there.

Admins etc:
Just wondering, why is it on the main pages showing all the threads you can only select the next page via the drop down menu, ie to go to page 2
However if you go into a thread which has multiple pages of posts, you get a next page link which I find better for quick navigation

Check this bling VW owner out. Help is needed!

Hi my girlfriends AX dash lights don't work at all. Have replaced the bulbs but it's no better. There doesn't appear to be a feed to the circuit board. The radio and fog lights illumination works as it should but no dash lights. Incidentally the heater control lights don't work either but that doesn't really matter. What could be causing it? where...

I went down to my local GSF store this morning for some parts. As I was leaving I spied on the counter a pile of yearly planners. I took one, and later, over coffee began to fill it in. Only then did I notice - 2003!!

Copied from Piston Heads forum
Pensioner banned from driving for reminding motorists not to speed
A 71 year old man has been banned from driving for warning other motorists of a speed trap up the road - even though he wasn't in his car at the time! He was also ordered to pay £364 in costs.
Stuart Harding stood on the A325 near Farnborough with a...

I was coming back from Somerset today in the old ZX, coming along the M4 home. Just before the services nr Chippenham, the road hazard signs were lit up 50MPH. Most people slowed down, I did. A driver in a new BMW 5 series came up the on slip from the services, forcing a lorry into the middle lane, I automatically moved to the outside lane and...

Not sure if this one will get thru as it's not really cit related but here goes anyway.
Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of debit card fraud as I have recently been on the receiving end to the tune of £1150.
The investigation is ongoing by the Bank and Police but it is looking unlikely that I will get the money back due to the fact...

Anders, I've no doubts this has been big news in Denmark. I know it's been extra big over here.
What next I wonder? They're always talking ditching the British Royals but they seem to have taken your Royals to heart.
Could we end up with a joint nationality & if so what would we both be called?
Ausdanes or Denaussies? Next we'll have a free trade...

Found this while doing a bit of research on a marine unit I am working on -
The present program on coal fueled diesel engines was undertaken on the premise that the problems experienced by the Germans might be able to be solved by using recent technical developments such as: coal cleaning and micronizing techniques capable of producing 0.5% ash, 6...

Does anyone know how to change the colour of the rubber door protector strips and bumpers on a ZX? The window rubbers, door handles, etc are all black, the car is light grey, but the bumpers and door fingy's are a dark ish grey! ?? They don't match anything? Friday paint job maybe?
Would paint just come off when hosed/washed? Can they be stained...

Assuming I can extract the hinge pins from my Savanna does anybody have any suggestions about what to replace them with?
I don't want to buy the real thing because I think much of the wear will be on the actual hinge so the correct pin won't help much.
Is there a favourite cure for the worn hinge problem? I've posted it here because it's something...

All four cars are fine - it's some computer help I need. I renewed with Norton 2004 a few weeks ago. Before the latest edition would load, it told me to download Outlook Express 6. Ever since, as soon as I switch on, the dial-up connection dialogue manager pops up. However many times I click 'cancel', it just won't go away. Anybody tell me how to...

I noticed that the ZX Aura had the panels beneath its bumpers painted the same colour as the rest of the car and looked much nicer for it..
So.. I had the panels on my Avantage sprayed in a similar fashion, and was very surprised at how much difference it made to the cars overal appearance It cost me £70 but it was money very well spent..
Piccy...

BX owners know all about sticky seals on the front struts.
More and more motorbikes have their front suspension legs coated in Titanium nitride to prevent this. I don't know how it is applied (I think it is done by ion beam deposition) but I think that this would be the answer.

the front of my xantia is higher than the back and when i drive it and stop to turn a corner the front raises to the higest postion and when i finish complete the turn it comes back down to the mid height position and stays like that even when i park up this occur after i changed the front spheres. if you can give me some help it would be...

Hi Folks,
bit of a weird one this. In June it looks like i'll be moving to the united states for 4 months and i have some car questions. Im not a newbie to the states (in fact i have loads of family over there!), and yes i know they have the steering wheel on the wrong side (along with the cars on the road) and that they generally dont believe in...

I am a bit of a novice and am in need of some urgent help. I need to change the fuel filter on my 1997 Renault clio. I believe it is fairly straight forward but would appreciate some urgent guidance on the matter to ensure that it is done correctly. I would appreciate any help from more experienced motorisits.

Well it had to happen but in a way that left me with nothing but contempt for our boys in blue.
On returning from Somerset on the M5 I was followed for about half a mile at a distance by a Police Range Rover at 95mph , immediately I slowed to 78mph pulled into the middle lane and ambled along with all the traffic. After another half mile the blue...

After Tom's unfortunate incident draining the auoto box fluid by mistake and the other 'confessions' I just wondered if a little light relief or 'confessions' which is supposed to be good for the soul anyway, could be collected here and then put together as a catalogue of 'things can only get better!'
Mine was back in the late 1960's when my Ford...

I've read it a few times, but this particular gem only really sank in the other day (taken from Haynes 94-00 Laguna manual).
Slip the belt over the crankshaft sprocket, keep it taught and feed it over the idler pulley, etc. etc. Brilliant, thank you Haynes !
On reflection, as this (cam) belt has an automatic tensioner, maybe it's self taught ?...

When the car is warm if I push the accelerator and release it
the idle goes very low as if the engine will stop. Also is difficult
to start again. But if it is cold there is no such a problem except
the chocking and slow acceleration when the accelerator is pushed down.I 've replaced the throttle potentiometer and electronic ignition unit...

Saw an advert for the Citroen Picasso it was the 110bhp HDI with 'overboost'. How much does it overboost by, for how long and what gears is it available in I wonder? 120, 130bhp maybe?

OK so its not a German Swedish or French car & i know some people domnt like the modified car scene but i checked out the site & realy felt for the owner,, i just hope she manages to get some form of revenge.

Sorry for not knowing how-to....
Do they have to be on an online server?
Thanks!

So, I have little money but I ran across a car I like the look of.
It is petrol- I want diesel
It is auto - I want manual
It is blue - I want white
It doesn't even go for heaven's sake!
Could be the flywheel sensor?
Have I finally lost it or is it ok to become posessed by a CX Break?
Seriously, what are they like to live with 'cos I think I'm in...

Took my car in desperation to Kwik fit, asked them to have a look at the osf suspension. The coversation went along the lines of:
me : I'm getting a wierd creaking noise and a loud crack, when I turn the steering full lock to full lock.
KFF : Couldn't see anything suggest you take it to a garage.
me : fair enough!
Went home and decided to have a...

I have had several looks at the Porsche and VW sites on the GSF lists and there is virually no traffic at all. Compared to the Citroen site it is just - well - silent!
Do we Citroen owners have an uncommon herding instinct or are the other vehicles just more reliable or their owners unable to use the forums and simply chat? Well you do have to be...
