Given the number of 'After-sales campaign' notices concerning Takarta Airbags I have been made aware of when looking up parts from PSA for members, I thought I would post a link to the following documentary that may be informative concerning the issue with these igniters.

According to Takata, the chemicals in the airbags’ explosive charge can...

Disruption to Parts Service

As you may be aware, the consolidation of the old PSA to the Stellantis Group systems has resulted in both a merge of data tools and a requirement to migrate PSA accounts to Stellantis Systems.

This has caused some problems for organisations like ours and the Team are currently looking at the best way forward. This...

306 condensor replacement

by Dave1 » 26 Nov 2005, 17:08

First post

From reading previous threads it appears some have replaced condensors. Could someone who has done this or knows how, advise whether any special tools are needed. I see on the 306 forum a spring locking tool is required. Is this the only special tool needed, did you even need it. Any advice on the above plus pitalls, tips appreciated.

Oh. and...

there are 2 connections on 306 condensor one on left hand side at bottom has a clamp with a m6 nut holding it,the other end is either a screw together union (usually tu petrol engine) or a snap together connection,if you follow this pipe it goes to reciever/dryer i would disconnect it here and take condensor out like this and then pop to your...

Is it worth sticking to the main dealer or does someone know somewhere that is good and reliable?

Anyone know what it could be?

Which valve on 406 GLX????

Hello,
Me n mate are gonna try refilling my aircon via the dodgy looking refill aerosols as my system has a leak - but is too shot to be fixed for a reasonable price so trying this as it has a sealent in it.
Question is, which valve is it that I need to use to fill the refrigerant into the system because I have 3 identical looking bleed valves...

Last post

Hmm, might not be the same on the 406, but on my 405, there are two valves - one bigger than the other, right up on the bulkhead with big plastic caps on..

The filler pipe will only fit on one ( the smaller one ).

Mat.

406 - No air con or internal fan!

by alan s » 06 Sep 2005, 03:28

This sounds similar to the Xantia system and as yet I haven't had the need to really go looking for it, however on the Xantia, it is either coincidental or it has built into the system a thermister or a circuit breaked with an auto reset. The drier bottle is the unit that the sight glass is attatched to. It's about the size of a slighlty tall, thin can of cola. If the liquid is looking milky then you almost certainly have moisture in the system, which will be causing the problems and lack of performance.
you also have to find out where the moisture has gotten in. Favourite place...

Evaporator temperature.

by alan s » 21 Jun 2005, 04:57

First post

I've never seen inside a 405 system so I can't really comment apart from saying that the system in a BX isn't common even throughout its range. A 16V has a different condensor than say a TZi; the TZi has a much larger surface area and the 8 vlave systems seem more efficient than the 16V one because of it.
The frost sensor I would imagine to be the...

Last post

I've read on a number of occasions about the BX aircon that can put frost on the outside of the windscreen. This means that the evaprotator must be well below freezing (about -10 to -15 at a guess)
Now, the aircon components on a BX must be similar to that used in a 405 (same engine, similar size car etc.) but the 405 has a frost sensor on the...

I don't know why you would need to fit new relays as you describe. The wiring from the ignition switch to the fan controls I have heard can be a problem due to the current drawn and this is usually cured by tapping power from the cigarette lighter, but if it's working, we'll leave that one alone.

If it was an R-12 system and the amount was shown on the plate, you can work on that less 10% when converted to R134a.

Recharging?

by Kowalski » 27 Apr 2005, 03:04

First post

Recharging should only be done when your air con system is low on gas, or if it works poorly, if there are no leaks, no gas can escape and it shouldn't need any maintenance.

Last post

Hi,
How often should the Aircon sytem be recharged if there seem to be no visible problems and the system works ok?
I have found someone who can recharge the sytem for about £45 and his garage is recommended by a colleague from work.
Thanks,

Xantia A/C

by ghostrider » 23 Apr 2005, 23:00

First post

Timbo, welcome to the forum
Yup mines the same, but I think it is just coincidence, rev counter sensor goes open circuit once it is warmed up.
The air con problem is possibly related to the cooling fan problems covered in other threads, to check the fans are working, turn ignition on and then disconnect the brown sensor on the thermostat housing,...

hi guys, here's a tricky one I can't figure out.
97 Xantia 1.9TD with A/C
On cold startup A/C work fine, gets real cold.
When normal operating temp reached, the A/C stops completely, ie the clutch disengages.
I have had prev problems with the ignition switch, but seems fine now. The weird thing is, the rev counter starts and stops at the same...

306 A/C Noise from behind dash

by np » 24 Apr 2005, 01:22

First post

The compressor is under the bonnet. Not sure about the noise.
A/CON usally needs a regass every 3-5 yrs.I had mine done 3 yrs ago now,but it still works 100%.I presume you would have a pollen/cabin filter?Has that ever been changed? It needs replacing at every service. It can become quite blocked up,reducing a/c output.Mine usally tends to not work...

Last post

Hi,
Yesterday my 306 started making a quite nasty noise from behind the passenger side of the dash when the aircon is switched on. It sounds like a dry-rubbing metal-on-metal kinda sound which is making me nervous!
In the interest of experimentation, I left the aircon on for my 10 minute journey from home and it appears to be working albeit not...

Kowalski, if you put the suspension on high and look in through the drivers side wheel arch, you will be able to see the pulley on the end of the compressor, there is a clutch unit on it so if the centre is stationary the compressor is not running, check the wiring to the clutch (connector at Opp end of compressor), as far as I know the clutch is...

When I press the button on the dash, the cooling fans (external) start up but the engine revs don't go up as they should. The air inside the car doesn't get any cooler either even set to full cold...

Does anyone have the wiring diagram to show how the blower controls, temperature setting and A/C button are linked.
I currently have none working, no power going to that part of the consol.
If not any ideas what the problem maybe. All the fuses have been checked. Everything else in the car is working.
I have a 99 (T) Peug 306 Dturbo.

Aircon hose

by alan s » 11 Mar 2005, 17:40

Here you go James.
As an addition to the hose supplies, here's the fittings crimper.
There are hydraulic as well as hand operated ones here.
For the DIYer I'd expect the hand one would be a goer.

FWIW, buying one of these as an investment particularly if a club were to do it, is more practical than it may at first seem. I know a guy over here...

I have posted a load of links in the useful link section on where to source aircon hose and connectors.

Just above the ashtray you'll see some horizontal slots covering an area the size of a small coin. Shine a torch in there and you'll see a small fan that should spin when the engine is running. I think this might be what you're looking for. The whole thing is in a green unit that looks as though it can be pulled down if you remove the ashtray....

XM Aircon

by Richard Gallagher » 01 Mar 2005, 03:05

First post

If it has been sitting for years unused then the gas has more than likely escaped through dried up seals. It may work if the system is recharged, it all depends on how the seals are really.

Last post

When i turn the A/C on in my XM, nothing happens, i've had a look under the bonnet, and the electronic clutch isn't moving at all when you press the button. Could this be just because it's been sitting for a few years and needs a recharge? or is it likely to be more serious?
Thanks
David.

How do I know it's working?

by alan s » 23 Feb 2005, 17:32

Gareth,
Air/con is operated by a compressor and is refrigerated. The heater will operate like any normal heater. Usually if a car has basic air/con, it will have a blue section on the heat control. The knob needs to be pointing at this for the air/con to work. It usually also has a seperate control for the temp of the air/con beit a knob or in...

Hi, I recently purchased a Picasso with the basic A/C not Climate control. I've never had A/C before so I don't know if it's working?
The ambient air is really cold at the moment, so I can't get a true feel for the cooling properties. And it doesn't say if the A/C system should heat, in the user manual. Should it??
I need an answer because the...

Something's definitely bottoms up there.
I haven't had cause to delve too far into the climate controls on these but obviously they have both hot and cold controls. I gather this from the sensation I sometimes get when I have the outside thermometer pointing at 38 - 40 degrees, feel it's set a bit too cold, reset the temp a couple of degrees and...

OK it has climate control so (in theory) you set it to a temperature and it should attain that temperature and hold it.....if you set it to the bottom of the scale it should just produce cold air...if...

Front window need demisting

by alan s » 04 Feb 2005, 07:30

If you had air/con it would blow it off in seconds.
If not or if you turn the demisters on and it still fogs, chances are you could have a leak starting in the heater matrix.

BX Aircon refrigerant

by littleredrooster » 26 Jan 2005, 19:07

As far as I understand, the newer AC installations are completely different to the older ones. Much higher pressure is involved, so the entire system would have to be changed.

I would welcome some information on the new type of refrigerant and what if any components might need to be changed from the current set up I have on my 92 BX 1.7TZD.
The compressor is u/s so that would be an initial invetsment but i believe that the need stuff runs at a much higher pressure so what else might need to be changed to get the aircon...
