Post by drpau »

Im changing oil/filter etc this weekend, what am I to expect, is it going to be a standard sump plug that i can use my wrench on, or one of these ones with a square bit in the middle that ive heard about on here? if so were do I get the square bit? Its a 99 T Xsara Hdi.

It'll probably be a round plug with a square in the centre. On all four of our cars I've replaced with a sump plug that will take a socket.

Can't say about the diesel Xsara. The 1.6 VTR I have has a sump plug that is 24mm nut with an 8mm Square hole in the middle. I've got a socket that I made up that you can put on the nut then put an 8mm piece of square in the middle of and undo. Also has the (Dowty type seal) rubber seal / washer not the copper crush type. This set up was the same on my old ZX TD on an 'L' 94 reg.

On an HDi all you need is a 21mm spanner/socket for the sump plug.
Uses unique (to HDi and DW8) very small copper sump washer which must be replaced:N11637

Doh, just been in to gsf in manchester to buy my bits (air/oil/fuel filter etc) and asked if they had any thing that would fit in the round sump plug with square hole so they gave me this little kit- with square bits, about 13quid with the VAT. So if this is no use to me will I be able to get a refund Jon? Forgot the sump washer as well!! Doh.[:I]

My C5 2.0 HDI 110 uses an allen key in the sump plug. I don't remember the size.

Good old Citroen for keeping things simple eh? No wonder half the parts I buy end up being wrong and have to go back!
My Xsara's in the 21mm socket camp. This thread should be moved into General Chat, under the title "Sump plugs we have known and loved".
