Hi Anders
No, I meant the stack of (10?) steel discs with tiny holes, assembled with spacers, that you remove by unscrewing the brass plug with 2 flats, in the end of the body, accessible after removing one of the steel discs.
Excerpt from text I did:
Looking straight at one end of the body, you will see the damper port, with a plug screwed into it to retain the damper discs. This plug needs a tool making to remove it – select a piece of steel rod (nail?) slightly smaller in diameter, and saw a slot in it that will go over the raised central part of the plug to unscrew it – it will not be too tight.
Carefully tap out the discs and spacers – all discs (10 if I recall correctly) are the same, but there is one larger spacer. Discs have minute central holes where dirt accumulates.

Mike -
It's obvious from your description that you have seen something I have yet to see [8D]
I have only ever seen a single disc to each end of the HC - on HC's from a range of BX's and CX's - and a single HC from a GS (given to me).
Does not surprise me however - as always there seems to be variation in the design of the HC's also [8D]

it's all clear now.
the damper valve - the restrictor orifices in the upper part of your picture.
* This I have never taken apart *
- but simply cleaned with a thin gauge wire and pressurised air.
It is quite important that these orifices are cleaned well, as blockage would give too much damping, i.e. give the impression that the HC is mechanically stuck.
Thanks Mike [8D]
I'll definately add your description to my write-up.

Hi guys,
I did a description of this some while back.

Not too hard to do [:p]

I think the tool required to dismantle the HC damper stack might be similar to a flat screwdriver blade with a notch out the middle. Have a look at the packs of anti tamper bits sold in the UK in Maplins , also try tool stores,I think laser make a set.also lets you take other things apart that your not supposed to.
