C5 Mk2 (2007) rock hard suspension after new timing belt and a week on axle stands ???

Unread post by ianio »

ok, so new timing belt and some other bits and bobs means the car has spent a week or two with the front end up in the air. suspension set to high.

all maintenance now complete, i took it down the road to test it and the suspension is rock hard. it could be set up and down via the cockpit buttons. but no "suspension" with the car bouncing around on all bumps in the road. Eventually a suspension warning message came on the dash with limited to 55mph.

a quick test and there is zero roll when i pull the roof bars and i cannot move the car when pressing down on the tailgate or front wings. on restart the next morning the car is raising and lowering again, but rock hard.

everything was fine before i started. !!! eeek

have i forgot to connect something back up?
has a week on "high" seized something up?
do i have an airlock or something?

Did you remove the LDS cap before jacking after setting the suspension to high? Have a read through this : viewtopic.php?p=561917#p561917 :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

ah sheesh good questions. i hadnt released the suspension fluid cap until i checked for issues later. didnt seem to make a difference. i also released the car off the jacks real slow as i heard i can blow the spheres.

also, i have no idea if its H3 or H3+. its a mk2 from 2007. 2.0 hdi auto. no other specs than that ! how would i tell. ?

WAIT. UPDATE.

just removed the cap and looked. fluid seems low, not visible in lowest setting.

however the think just seemed to snap and wahay, its all back to normal. #

im suspecting that the oil is low and the front struts drained when hung for so long. now its all back in place its working again.

it looks like im adding some ATF to the susp resevoir tomorrow.

sometimes the oddest results are the easiest to resolve. sometimes they kick like a mule.

Be very careful what you put in. It should be Total LDS. There are other makes of LDS but although I have used one in a bit of an emergency it is best to steer clear of them.
Also, the level may be correct, or nearly so. Post a photo please.

This is usual.
