there is a small display on my roof that lights up with 3 red dots and a circle with a line through does anyone know what it is

I think it's part of the start-up checks on the seatbelts.

That sounds likely to me Paul, the three dots representing the three rear seats and the line is a seatbelt not fastened symbol. Do you have stuff on the back seats?

I do not know the year of your car but a look in the hand book for a 2010 one on page 96 about seat belts shows a display with 5 red dots on it representing the seat belts.
