False DPF warning message.

Unread post by andyandjulie »

Hi all

My car is in the garage at the moment as it was warning of imminent DPF blockage and I wasn't able to clear it with a regeneration. It's also in limp mode.

The garage have just informed me that the DPF is not blocked and that the pressure readings are normal, I think they also said that the voltage from the DPF pressure sensor was in the normal range too.

Can anybody suggest what might be causing the false message?

Thanks

Andy

Possible sensor error in the exhaust, Oxygen sensor or temperature sensor. Those thoughts are off the top of my head without digging!! :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

My DS5 has the same problem. I've had the EGR inspected and cleaned, a replacement DPF (pattern part) installed with the same problem, the OEM DPF has been professionally cleaned, I've had the additive tank tested, the additive tank emptied, and refilled. My mate is a Citroen mechanic, and he has said that the manufacturer's fault manual advises replacing the fuel tank as the Eolys/AdBlue pump is inside it. At this point, I have decided to get rid of the car as I am not spending £3000+ on a new OEM fuel tank and possible DPF.

If it's in limp there should be some codes... is the external temperature sensor still working?

Yes, the outside temperature is being reported accurately.

P246C 00 and P2463 00. Both say Particulate filter detected to be overloaded.

Thanks Paul, I'd seen that thread. But my DPF pressures are low and the soot content is 0g, total weight of additive acumulated in particulate filter is 5g, rate of clogging of the particulate filter with cinders is 3%. Also the voltages from the DPF pressure sensor are in the normal range. The garage says this is a healthy DPF. Why is the car saying the DPF is in danger of blocking and giving me limp mode? I need the car for work, it's driving me nuts. I checked the tail pipe earlier and it's as clean as a whistle. I regulary use injector/fuel system cleaner and DPF cleaner.

Did you mean the Adblue tank?

You need to see the freeze frame data behind the codes, clear them, and then look at live data when the car is being driven. Not sure on the configuration on this engine, it may have a manifold pressure sensor, or turbo up stream pressure, which also need to be OK. 35k in 8 years is low miles.... How is it being driven?

OK, thanks for that Richard. I've got it booked in for a diagnostic check at a very good local expert that was previously a Peugeot Master Technician. I have confidence in him. The car does 40 miles a day to work and back for me (morning 20 miles urban, evening 20 miles motorway) and a bit of local running around at the weekend. I have been using Forte in-tank dpf cleaner fairly regularly and the car has had reasonably low DPF pressures which I was monitoring after a previous issue a couple of years back. I also use Redex diesel system fuel cleaner every week. It also gets a good blast down the M5 to the west country twice a year towing a caravan.

Why are you putting Redex in every week, can this block up the dpf ?
