rear suspension pipe C5 hydro part 5270VP

Unread post by K4KEV »

Can some one explain to me the purpose of the reinforced hose on this part and why can't it be straight or coiled, as there is no evidence to suggest it moves in any way

I have no idea but a read through this thread might give you a clue: viewtopic.php?p=797448#p797448 :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Thanks Mick, yes I have read that thread but it still does not throw any light on it. That part is so expensive for what it is when it could be a lot simpler to diy fab up especially when you can use the adapters to use 3/16 kunifer

I don't know this as fact but in engineering terms I would say it serves a number of purposes;-

1, it isolates the pipework on the body from those on the subframe and eliminates any risk of vibration damage between the two
2, It provides a flexible alignment point to compensate for any manufacturing tolerances (however small these might be).
3 and finally, it eases the manufacturing process where sub assemblies are made in different locations and brought together on the assembly line. Using a flexible potion makes fitting easier.

There's no reason why 3/16" pipe can't be used and I have done so in the past.

Within the flexible part of the Xantia power steering feed pipe there is a flow "choke"............not sure if it has any relevance in this situation but.....
