Sharp Areas of Steering Wheel

Unread post by Snak3zZ »

2013 Citroen C3 Picasso

Not my car admittedly, it's my mother in law's. The plastic part at the bottom of the steering wheel has cut my hands up. Upon trying to feel around the wheel I have then sliced my finger. It's sharper than glass.

We could of course tape it, but I worry this would wear and just be a reoccurring problem. Do we need to do something as drastic as buy a new steering wheel or can we replace the plastic bottom of the wheel?

I'll send photos later when I am at the in law's

Many thanks in advance.

P.S. First post on here, I am long time user of Aircross Forums. Look forward to helping out where I can.

Edit #1 - Have added photos, thanks for the suggestions so far :)

Welcome to the forum Snak. Yes photos would be very useful to see what's what.

Use a Dremel or similar to grind down the sharp bits.

Also, a used steering wheel is pretty cheap, £25-50 should get a replacement.

Thanks for the help all, I ordered a cheap £6 tool similar to a dremel and managed to sand it down. Much appreciated.

That looks like the same sort of issue the X7's parking brake button has. The chrome finish is starting to peel. Chances are it might start to peel up again in the future so worth keeping an eye on it. Stripping the whole trim piece of the coating should solve the finger slicing issue, but it'll look a bit naff.
