2013 C5 X7 haunted rear wash wipe

Unread post by Camper Longflap »

My water tank is being emptied intermittently by this fault. I don't have to touch anything, it empties on its own.

Is it a case of replacing the indicator and washer stalk units?

Can you expand a bit more on the 'it empties on its own' Do you mean as soon as you fill it it pumps it out the nozzle, or it leaks out somewhere in the system? :)

It works as if you're operating it from the stalk. Intermittently with no input. Frustrating as it sprays all my screen wash over the back window until it's spent.

That is a possibility but before you buy one I'd suggest you unplug the old one to ensure it doesn't happen then. :)

You could also check the wiring to the washer pump in case it is damaged and shorting as if the switch was being used. BSI resets sometimes fix odd electrical problems as well so might be worth a go.

Testing the wiring is beyond my paygrade unfortunately.... Incidentally is steering wheel removal required for replacement of the indicator/washer stalk assembly?

Even a visual inspection of the wires going from the pump maybe worth the effort as you are looking for insulation integrity. If there are any scuffs where the wiring goes through the hatch into the car main body they could allow shorting out on the frame. I agree testing can be challenging because of the way cars are wired these days but you should be able to visually inspect the wires for damage. If you find any then wrap insulation tape round the damage thereby isolating it from contact with anything else :)

Prob a broken cable at the hinge, I have a ghost issue where the wiper will start when the door is mid raise and then stop once it opens more.
why?

I suspect the wiring to the pump will not go through a door but straight from the steering wheel stalk to a fuse box and then to the pump.
