Saxo 1.6 Automatic Gearbox Type?

Unread post by CitroJim »

I've had an enquiry via my CCC column to ask about swapping the ATF and any allied routine service work on the automatic gearbox fitted to the very rare series 1 1.6i Saxo Automatic...

All I can determine from my enquiries/searches is that it's a 3-speed and not an AL4... I'd like to know exactly what it is.

Also, can anyone shed any light on the correct grade of ATF to use (Dexron II or III?), any filters to clean/replace and if a diagnostic session is needed to reset any worn oil counters and if any reinitialisation is required.

Thanks all :)

Thanks Alasdair, that's appreciated :) I thought it might be an MB but in my current fuzzy state I just couldn't think what its designation was... That's actually a Renault 'box and also used in the 106...

Seems it needs Dexron III and is electronic.

As far as im aware the only auto box he Saxo ever used was the MB3
Takes Total ATX which is the same as Dexron 3
Nothing fancy needed with Lexia.

Hi there,

Very helpful, thanks guys!
However, I must point out the Total Fluide ATX (or as it's branded now "TotalEnergies Fluidmatic ATX Automatic Transmission Fluid") is actually specified as Dextron II D.

This is backed up by further research re: the MB3 'box, with PSA listing "PSA Peugeot Citroën: S71 2102"
