Xantia V6 moving

Unread post by handyman »

I have a Xantia S2 V6 conundrum.
Bonnet release wont so the bonnet is locked down.
As its an auto, it was left in Park & wont release.
It has stood for ten years so suspension is down & battery flat.
Do I start it, once I get the bonnet open & install a new battery? I'm loathe to risk wrecking the engine as its a low mileage, ex Citroen UK model, with NO RUST.
Useful solutions, please.

Bonnet release method: https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ ... hp?t=25552
The transmission lock can be released by lifting the plastic piece surrounding the gear lever and levering out the pin with a large screwdriver.
If the engine turns over freely, I would just attempt to start it, but as it will be due a timing belt, you could be a good person and replace that first, and add a bit of upper cylinder lubrication through the spark plug holes.

Good luck with recommissioning!

I had to do similar a while ago (but on a mark 1 Xantia) and thought I had updated the thread with pics - evidently I hadn’t.
However, I managed it without damaging anything and described what I did here
I don’t know if that method would also work on a mark 2 Xantia? Not sure what they changed inside the front slam panel etc during the restyling.
