C5 2005 v6 Exclusive AM6 hard shifting

Unread post by enzobet »

Hi Folks, greetings from Chile,

I have this beautiful C5 that i parked more than 10 years ago.

Back then i stopped driving it bcs of a hard shifting issue when at service temperature. When cold it drives well.
I made this simple test, when the shifting issue showed up at service temperature i poured water onto the soleinoid box.
This way the temperature lowered and the gearbox started to work fine again, but as soon as i removed the water from the hose the gearbox showed the
hard shifting issue back again once temp raised.
The diagnosis tests show no issue, no errors, no codes.

Back then citroen wanted me to pay 8k usd for a new box but i preferred to park it until better times.

I want to use my car again since it´s like new with 123k kms and i think maybe there's much more info and help that i can get to fix this issue.

A tech told be that some sensor might be failing or some ECU issue too.

Any help will be most appreciated to get back in track this superb phase II Exclusive!!!

Cheers!

Good day to you.

I have a 2005 C5 2.0 HDi with the same AM6 gearbox. It is also known as the TF80SC gearbox from Asin. If it's harsh changing into 3rd and 5th then it's very likely to be a sticking solenoid. This is what mine did, and is starting to do again (after 90 thousand miles on the new part).

Be prepared though that if it's that, you'll be changing the entire valve block (usually about £500 in the UK for the part). It's not a hard job to change it (mine was down while the engine and box were out for a different reason). I'm 95% sure it's doable in the car though.

There was a problem with the design of the valve block on these transmissions that caused excessive wear to one of the shuttle valves, causing harsh upshifts (mostly 2-3 upshift). the design was fixed in about 2007 and replacement valve blocks should not have the issue, which affected many Volvo.

Repair kits with an over-size piston and other parts to repair the valve block: https://www.sonnax.com/parts/2151-overs ... -valve-kit
