Re: Black smoke
Hmm, had an issue with a turbo on a Nissan 300ZX (petrol) leaking oil on the over run, the smoke was very white.. Not sure if that's much help. Do you know if the car has had any ECU enhancements?

Re: Black smoke
If you don't mind me asking, have you checked for any restrictions/blockages in the air intake path? Black smoke is, I believe, an indicator of poorly burnt fuel, usually (but certainly not always) caused by a reduced air intake.

Re: Black smoke
With a HDi I would be VERY concerned that the black smoke (normally due to over fuelling/it not being burnt) was both diluting the engine oil rapidly and damaging the DPF.
I would NOT drive a DPF equipped car for those two reasons............leaky injectors would be my first point of suspicion, these should be removed and put on a tester I would think.
Note: IF it were oil getting past the turbo seals and assuming combustion was correct, that smoke would be white/grey.....also, IF it were the case this was happening then the risk of turbo runaway would be very high, that would kill the engine and is another reason (even if I think it is not the problem) to NOT drive the car untill the problem if found.

Re: Black smoke
Thanks for the replys I have found today in live data the absolute throttle postion is showing 100% constantly at idle and when driving stays at 100% is this normal or should the reading change as the accelatror is increased or decreased many thanks once again
