DPF regenerates often

Unread post by lubics »

Hello!
The problem with my car is that the particulate filter regenerates every 50 kilometers. (The problem has been going on for months.) The particulate filter, the EGR valve, and the particulate filter sensors have already been replaced. There was also a software update, but the error remains. I have been to several car services (including Citroën specific service), but they cannot solve the problem.
Does anyone have an idea what the solution could be?
Car type: Citroën C5 Aircross, 1499 cm3, BlueHDI, automatic transmission, 2019

Thank you very much!

Do you have any error codes from the car using a high spec diagnostic machine (preferably Diagbox)?

Unfortunately, I don't have a diagnostic device. According to the car mechanics, the system doesn't write a specific error code that clearly identifies the problem. For example, it indicates an environmental error or an error code indicating engine oil dilution.

Have the mechanics not put a code reader onto the car?

yes, that code reader wrote these non-specific codes (as far as I know). I don't know exactly what number or code the system indicated, but based on them the mechanics were unable to identify the source of the problem.

Those codes are important. Can you get the precise readings off the mechanics?

When the particulate filter was replaced did you do a diagnostic to tell the car it had been replaced ? I could be wrong but I think this is needed or the car will continue to think it has the old blocked filter.

That is correct, if the engine ECU has not been told the particle filter has been replaced it will not know. Still, very strange that this has needed a replacement for a 2019 vehicle unless you frequently drive to the moon and back.

Hi

I had a similar issue with my 2018 Expert 2.0Hdi regenerating every 45 miles or so but everything else seemed ok, I read something somewhere on a Peugeot/Citroen forum that made me think it could be injector related.

Not many miles later I ended up changing the injectors and the fuel pump due to a missing fuel filter (another tedious story), anyway after that active regenerations were up to a minimum of about 450 miles with local very short journeys but usually much less frequent.

Don't know if this is relevant to your situation but I though it was worth sharing anyway.

Thanks, I'll try to ask my mechanic.

My first post wasn't precise, the filter was not replaced, only cleaned. Im not sure, if the engine was told about this, I'll have the ask my mechanic. The thing is, when the filter was picked apart I was told it wasn't blocked, but it was still regenerating for some reason.

Thank for the tip, I'll look into it, if the other solutions don't work.

This is still required even if cleaned - otherwise the ECU will not know this.
