Fuse blows Citroen C5 1.6 hdi 2005

Unread post by rago »

Fuse no 10 (30 amp) in fusebox in engine compartment blows when turning on ignition. Manual says it controls electric pump for the power steering. But I cant find any electric parts on my steering system. Looks like pump is mecanic. Engine lamp is on, and engine runs in limp mode. Any ideas what to look for?

You have a short inside the pump motor.

9times out of 10 it is fixed by removing the pump, taking off the covers and cleaning out the mess that will be in there.

Thanks. You refers to the hydraulic pump, but I mean the steering pump which is driven by the motor as seen on the picture.

My car is 2005, mk2 I think its called. This is what confuses me, there are no electrical wires connected to my pump. Its pure mechanical. Still the manual says fuse no 10 controles the electric pump for power steering?

The power steering takes its hydraulic pressure from the pump, so does the suspension....

I found this...which may help.

Hello friends!
I had the same problem on my C5 2007 three years ago.
Just cleand the area near the brushes with brake cleaner and put back like it was.
Since than no problem.
But sometimes could be a short circuite in the wires or the relay near the front right suspension sphere. Just follow the wires from the fuse box in the engine compartment (Yellow and pink one I think) to the mencioned relay, and then to the pump.
At first I would disconect the connector from the pump and try with new fuse. If it blows, than the problem is in the wires or relay. If not, than You'll have to disassembly the pump :( .
I my case was blowing orange maxi fuse.

I have disconnected the wires from the hydraulic pump, then put in a new fuse, blows when i open the door. Suppose thats when ECU wakes up. I believe the pump is not the problem. I also disconnected the relay you mentioned. Same result, fuses blows again.
Maybe there are some short circuits in the wires?

I believe that blowing fuse isn't from suspension.
Try to use something from here...

?!?

Thanks, Vladimir. In the video, fuse no 10 controles engine management and fuel heater-diesel. Thats different from my manual which says electronic servopump. So still wonder what is correct? I also has some fault codes as shown.

I would do like this:
First i disconnect the turbine solenoid valve connector. It is located on the right rear side of the engine from above next to the plastic cover of the ribbed belt. and I would try a new fuse. If it burns again, then I would trace the wires from the solenoid connector to the fuse box to see if there is a short somewhere.

Using multimeter on ohms and touching wires from the pump conector and the ends of the blowing fuse you coud see whether they are conected.
I belive the orange maxi side fuse ( in the engine compartment, when you pull Up the fuse plate on the front side).

Thanks again! I have already tried to disconnect the turbine solenoid - fuse blows. Maybe there is a short in the wires. I didnt understand why I should search for connection between pump and orange fuse? The pump works fine.

You don't. Just in a case if you want to be sure which fuse is for the pump... forgot to mention the relay in the middle...
Then using multimeter start checking ground conections ,following the wires as longest you can.

Solved! Fuse no 10 controls electric heater fuel filter. Removed the wiring to filter, fuse holds. Deleted fault codes and engine light goes off.
