Hi everyone,
I'm seeking advice on a persistent steering issue with my 2016 Citroën C4 Grand Picasso. Here’s a summary of the problem:
I have a knocking sound coming from the steering, particularly noticeable when driving on a flat road with the steering wheel in a fixed position, as well as during acceleration and braking.
Steps Taken:
- Replaced the steering column due to suspected play and issues with the universal joints.
- Previously replaced the subframe bushings, which initially eliminated the noise for about 500-600 km, but the knocking sound eventually returned.
Currently, my vehicle has the following components:
- Steering Rack Part Number: F800002169
- Electric Power Steering (EPS) Part Number: F800002342
I’ve found a potential replacement steering rack with the following details:
Part Number: 6820000313 (2023 production year) with a new EPS, part number: 9827076680
I’m wondering if this new steering rack and EPS from a later model would be compatible with my pre-lift 2016 C4 Grand Picasso. Has anyone had experience with such a swap or know if these parts will fit and function correctly on my pre-lift model?
Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated, especially if you’ve faced similar issues or have information on the compatibility of these parts.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Best regards,
Sviat

Sviat - half of the above are not actual part numbers, with the exception of the one beginning 98.. It is unlikely the parts will be the same from model to model in many cases. We can help with the correct part numbers, but please see below:
We can help if you need an original genuine part number, part diagram or factory build sheet and can't already find the info you need on the Forum. For this service, we do ask for a membership upgrade for official parts data as we are in turn charged for this. It will cover you for future part number requests for up to 2 years, so excellent value.
If interested, links are below, then provide your vehicle's VIN in full, which will be masked automatically when you submit your post.

Hi,
I have a similar question.
My 2015 C4 Grand Picasso Exclusive (40k miles) has a loose steering rack problem - as discussed here: viewtopic.php?t=72418
I'm therefore looking for a replacement and wondered if a salvaged rack from a newer C4 Spacetourer could be used (as seemed to happen in the topic referenced). The car doesn't have parking assist.
Would it be possible to find out the steering rack part number?

Thank you.

I can't help you with salvaged parts as they are all different depending on engine, model and options.
However your own rack details are as follows:
(1) Electric Steering Mechanism, part: 1635675480, £2264.88.
Bear in mind these have the ECU and electronics built into the complete rack so are sold as a complete unit and therefore you need to ensure you have the correct part number. You can at least use the right part number I've supplied to source a second hand one.

Hi Marc,
Thank you for the quick reply and the information. It’s very much appreciated.
It looks as though there are some salvaged racks from C4 Spacetourers with the same part number – so that’s good.
Hopefully I can source a decent one soon and get it installed.
Thanks again for your help.
