I'm probably preaching to the converted but even though my wipers have been working perfectly, I read about their potential weaknesses and having priced up a pair at €250 each, I decided to pull mine and give them the once over.
Thank goodness I did.
Apart from the mouse nest in the passenger side one, both were very heavily corroded and when removing the black cover over the gearbox, I found that the corrosion had entered the gearbox and whilst not terminal, I doubt they would have lasted another year.
Even though they have a piece of rubber sheet to protect them, it looks as though rainwater soaks them especially if the scuttle trim is in poor condition (as mine is).
So I got out my dremel with a brass brush and cleaned them both, especially around the joints both on the gearbox side and the electronics side. The electronics side seal still seemed to be intact so I didn't disturb it but if left, I imagine the corrosion eats away at that joint and when water gets in the motor is toast.
I sprayed the inside of the gearbox with a spray grease and applied a thick lithium grease to the rotating parts and again put grease around the black plastic cover to keep any water out. The outside then got treated with some waxoyl like stuff to disperse any water and stop any further corrosion.
A couple of hours work has hopefully saved me a few hundred euros in the future and the incovenience of failed wiper(s).

Re: C5 X7 Windscreen wiper motors
Been there with a 2008 C5, suddenly seized and had to source a second hand one. When fitting it discovered other side had been previously replaced. Current C5 is 2013, 53000 miles and will be given preventative maintenance and as I'm seventy do me my day.
2008 car is now a donor car and will be for a short while, I'll be removing wiper motors and they will be available to Forum members.
Must check Forum rules on such things,
Cheers, Norman

Re: C5 X7 Windscreen wiper motors
Apologies in advance, I'm not sure how to use this forum, I hope I am in the right place.
Hi, My name is James and I live in Kerry Ireland, I own a 2011 C5 x7 Estate and I have a front wiper problem, I am on my second set of motors ,both sets have given up the ghost. I have seen on Ebay that some vendors are selling Peugeot 508 motors saying that they will fit a C5x7, I am looking for some sage advice on this matter please.
Can you advise on new units from Citroen as dealers in Ireland don't seem to be able to obtain new units ????
I have had to cancel my NCT (MOT) twice as now I have no wipers on my car.
Hope to get advice here, I have read most of the posts on the C5 wipers.
I had an auto electrician look at the wiring, fuses, relays etc: he said it appears to be the motors as they are badly corroded and may have ingested water.
Regards
James Southern Ireland.

Re: C5 X7 Windscreen wiper motors
Hi James
Let's put that myth to bed straight away - 508 wiper motors are NOT the same, different part numbers and they are physically different.
You can have a search on the Forum for those that have disassembled them, cleaned them up and had success, or if you require part numbers (which are showing as available on the official database), please see below:
We can help if you need an original genuine part number, part diagram or factory build sheet and can't already find the info you need on the Forum. For this service, we do ask for a membership upgrade for official parts data as we are in turn charged for this. It will cover you for future part number requests for up to 2 years, so excellent value.
If interested, links are below, then provide your vehicle's VIN in full, which will be masked automatically when you submit your post.

Re: C5 X7 Windscreen wiper motors
If you put a question on the parts thread, they'll be able to confirm 508 motor compatibility - I'd not heard of that possibility, but is some parts commonality between 508 and X7 C5Kris Meek C3WRC wrote: 19 Aug 2024, 21:37 Apologies in advance, I'm not sure how to use this forum, I hope I am in the right place.

(Need to be a member but soon pays for itself on the part numbers lookup "service" alone)
Further to what others have said, I think poor drainage of the scuttle panel void is also a factor, there was a load of crud in both sides drainage routes, I'd imagine it does not take too much time submerged to help finish the motor(s) off.
Very difficult to clean out completely without removing the motors - at which point giving them a clean and grease up is obvious additional task whilst you are there.
My understanding is failure of the motors is likely the cause, I'm not sure if the onboard circuitry ECU can die with (the old fashioned just a bloody simple) wiper motor still ok or if one kills the other by default.
