C5 X7 suspension stuck to low position

Unread post by guiledoux »

Hello,

My C5 is stuck to the lowest suspension position and it doesnt want to go up, i can't hear the hydraulic pump running.
After a fix i had to do i saw that my LDS reservoir was leaking, i decided to put the car to the lowest position and check the LDS and since then the car doesnt want to go higher nor the pump wants to work (i presume because i dont hear it).

I presumed it was due to the leaking and there was not enough LDS in the tank so i tried to put 1L but nothing changed. I've checked the big fuses and none of them seems blown (see picture). Is it possible that the leaking tank stop the pump from functioning or is it another problem (hydraulic pump dead?).

I'm going to send the car to a garage but i would like it to go back to normal position so i can drive to it and be sure the garage doesnt sell me a new hydraulic pump when i dont need one because it's quite expensive.

Thanks in advance

Look at fuse again, pull it out.
It may break just halfway, so it looks okay but its not.
Happened to me.

Best to test them if they are suspect as they can appear to be visually OK and the break is not visible.

Which reminds me of this:-

Hi,

look at this post, please.

viewtopic.php?t=82252

I had some problems with it some time ago. There are more than one box with fuses responsible for the LDS pump.
Hope this maybe helpful

Hello everyone,

First of all thanks for your replies. I ordered a multimeter and i'm gonna check that the fuses are indeed not blown.

@pi14 i've seen your answer and it helped me find the fuse but i couldn't get it out completely and from the above it didn't seem blown. As the other fuse i'm going to check it tomorrow with the multimeter and i'll let you guys know. Does the green 40amp fuse looks different when it's blown or i have to take it out and look under it to see it ?

Thanks :-D

As for my case, it was done by the mechanician and I had not seen it, but....
He claimed that this fuse was not completely blown and it was conducted some electricity. There were no errors. And this was misleading making the long way to fix it. At the end the fuse was changed and suspension, with the pump of course, came back to life.

I have news, i tested with the multimeter the big 40AMP fuse is not blown but it seems like the green 40A fuse hidden is blown. I'm going to order new ones and i'll let you know.

Thanks again pi14 <3

I would give some serious consideration to stripping down and cleaning the suspension pump motor (based on the fact that the maxi fuse had blown). This motor uses brushes, and generates carbon dust. Normally this would not be a problem, but in this case there is a reservoir of LDS directly above the motor. Over time LDS (from leaks or spillages) will make its' way into the motor, mix with the dust, and turn into a conductive sludge. This will then cause there to be a greater level of current drawn, eventually blowing that fuse.

It is not a difficult process (I successfully did it on my C5 facelift), but it takes a bit of time (4 hours should be enough, with proper preparation), and it will help with peace of mind (imagine that fuse blowing when you are in the middle of nowhere). There are good guides on this Forum, which helped me get my C5 back on the road.
